Homebrewing beer - cleaning and sanitation

I'm getting ready to start working on the first batch here in CH, and have a question about cleaning products. In the US and UK, the go-to sanitizer seems to be Starsan but I can't seem to get that here. I noticed brauundrauchshop have chemipro oxi which is supposed to be a no rinse sanitizer. However, it seems to be a percarbonate so I'm not sure if it's better suited for cleaning and rinsing rather than sanitizing.

The current plan is to just clean things with a simple coop detergent and to sanitize with chemipro but I thought I'd stop by here first to see if others have some recommendations.

For the home brewers one the board, what do you use for your cleaning and sanitation? Thanks!

Welcome to the Forum. Please tell us where you live, and you will get better advice.

This man Haldemann speaks excellent English, and his brewery is open every Saturday from about 12 to 17:00. I am sure he would welcome your visit.

His brewery and bar is in an underground bunker, near the road, so look for it carefully.

He has wisely kept up his day job, IT network analysis, but he finds the time to supply local restaurants and pubs with several types of beer.

Thanks for the reply. I live in Basel but don't mind making a trip to get the right supplies.

There is a homebrew/microbrew-specialist just back of the RAV here in Basel where you can get all the supplies and do-dah's needed. Just forgot the name but you can not miss it.

Re: Homebrewing beer - cleaning and sanitation

I've always just used a dilute solution of bleach for cleaning all my brewing stuff. I tend to wear gloves just because it kind of dries out the skin a bit, and make sure it is rinsed really well. I've brewed over 100 batches of beer and have never had any of them go bad so I assume it works and it is available everywhere.

Call Richard Leder from sios.ch (or see if they have what you're looking for on their site). He's a great guy and will no doubt be able to answer your questions. His English is excellent and he takes time for each person.
