Where to find food coloring?

I promise, I searched the Food and Drink forum but my eyes were about to bug out from too many buttercream frosting recipes.

Who has found liquid, (blue, yellow, red) food coloring and where did you find it? I've been to Coop, Manor and Globus but can't find it. Is it in the stupid Migros where I'm off to tomorrow?

Or do what the Swiss do -- make everything brown and color it with Aromat.

Migros sells food colouring in some of its larger stores. Be careful not to get it on your hands, or you will be scrubbing them for hours!

I already checked but they are out of both liquid and gels in any shades of red or blue. Since I'm trying to make French flag decorations for Bastille Day, I don't think yellow or green is going to work. (I'll keep checking, though.)

Maybe you'll really find them in Migros. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you instead of doing the washing up!

Hello, weirdly the pharmacies sell food colouring here! Recently I needed lots of colours for my son's birthday cake and it was the second time I have found it in the apotheke. Hope this helps!

It never ceases to amaze me what one can find in a pharmacie. Recently, I had to find mothballs to deter some stone martens that had set up shop in my crawl space and I finally found some in the pharmacie. Crazy.

(Mothballs, I mean. Not stone martens. I already know where they are; they are in my crawl space!)

Re: Food coloring, where?

I have bought those food colourants from both migros and coop. If you want a red tone, do not bother, you can use the whole flask you will just get a dark shade of pink, with green i got different shades of turquise (this on butter cream). A friend of mine decorates cakes professionally in the UK, she always buys her sugar paste ready made and coloured, she swears by it.

I am so glad for that link to the shop that sells sugar paste in so many colours, just in time for my boys upcoming birthdays, it made my day

Sorry about that, my supplier is behind schedule. I' m expecting the next delivery in about 2 weeks. I'll post here when they're available.

In the meantime, have a look in a Drogerie for liquid colours.

Re: Food coloring, where?

How urgently do you need them?

It looks like American Food Ave has them.

And, can you read/understand German? This website seems to have them...

I am pretty sure I saw this stuff recently at both Coop and Migros (or a similar item) and they weren't big stores...

Migros definitely sells them. I bought some when learning to make macarons.

Re: Where to find food coloring?

OK this is kinda strange. A few months ago we bought a 'new' Dr. Oetker deep dish pizza. When I made it in the oven, it looked done, but the whole bottom fell out as I was taking it out of the oven. Not only a mess in the oven, but the floor as well. I wrote them since it was a new product and we tried it on sale.

Good for the company! They sent me a WHOLE box of their products, coupons, a pizza cutter -- products included many baking needs, and one was food coloring. I have not seen it in the stores, but haven't actively looked for it. I will never use it and since you are close to me and I am in Lausanne much, you can have it if you can't find them. I have a Red, Blue, Yellow and Green. It's all in German so maybe they don't sell them on the French side??

Don't you use a Pizza Pan or the oven pan? Never heard of anyone cooking pizza without anything under it, a stone, pan then later onto a plate, can't see how the bottom would fall out of a plate onto floor. I would recomend not putting a pizza into the stove with nothing under it next time.

Re: Where to find food coloring?

Coop and Migro definitely have the 3 main colours (blue, red, yellow).

At any decent size Coop go to the bake decorating section, they have all the pastilles, decorations, and the food coloring haning on the pegs. Even the food coloring is in these pink cardboard backed packaging hanging individually on the racks, which isn't so obvious at first. You need to buy the colours separately, small cylinder glass shaped vials packed in the pink cardboard backing.
