I drain yoghurt here to try to get an approximation of proper yoghurt, but I'd been wondering about getting a yoghurt making machine. Curious to know if it is cheaper on the whole than buying premade.

Also, does anybody know why yoghurt in Switzerland is so awful?
Make your own! Yogurt is staple food in the Balkans and Greece so we too were quite disappointed in the general quality and / or price of yogurt so we started making our own. Also, a few times a month I will drain some yogurt in a cheesecloth to get "Greek" yogurt (not even sure how the Greeks managed to get a monopoly on this since this is, as said, staple food among millions of people outside of Greece for centuries, but anyway...) The whey I use to bake with (replacing the water in my dough).

Re: Greek Yogurt

If you seriously buy imported Yogurt from Iceland(!) on a regular basis for the insane price of 2.10CHF/170g, then you should probably see a doctor.
