Re: Winter Warmers [Drinks; Glühwein, etc]

So... how do I get an answer to my actual question then now that it's buried in the middle of a general thread on hot drinks?

There are several answers in the posts from the original thread.

Actually no there aren't - because I did actually read that whole thread before I posted my own.

My question was which of the two methods of making mulled wine is the best. I was looking for some opinions on that point. That's all.

Never mind

Re: Winter Warmers [Drinks; Glühwein, etc]

Following this article in the Guardian I was looking for the same thing - recipes/ideas/opinions etc of what makes good mulled wine (I know I like drinking the stuff, but have only made it a couple of times). Did a search here and came across this thread. So, any comments?

I guess it's extremely difficult to get hold of Winter Pimm's here... I tried it last year (with apple juice) and it's delicious.

Sorry, not sure if this thread is still alive.
When do you start getting gluhwein in Zurich, Switzerland?
Is there a specific time/day.

Cheers

Hey SPatkar,

It's already available. If you go to outdoor markets like the one linked below, you will find it everywhere :
Uster Märt - Uster Market ( Nov 24, 25 )

As I do not like cinnamon or cloves, I stay away from glühwein. I either carry a hip flask with single malt/cognac, or have an Irish coffee!

Re: Winter Warmers [Drinks; Glühwein, etc]

Hello everyone, first post

Has anyone tried Kaffee Lutz (not sure of spelling)?

Schnapps of some kind, usually Zwetschge or Kräuter (but I like mine with Kirsch ). Half a teaspoon of instant coffee, two sugar cubes and topped up with hot water. Really warms you up when it is so cold outside, so easy to drink that its easy to have a few too many...!!!

Re: Winter Warmers [Drinks; Glühwein, etc]

I'll revive this thread. I was running out the door to an outdoor gathering and wanted to bring my own libation. This was surprisingly good! Hot water, Instant Ricola Zitronenmelisse-Tee and plenty of JD's Honey Whiskey. A very last minute toddy I guess. It did the trick.

Re: Winter Warmers [Drinks; Glühwein, etc]

How can no one have mentioned Tom and Jerrys?

I am sure as heck not a Southerner, but I'd definitely recommend the bourbon. Although I'd recommend bourbon in almost anything...

This looks like a good thread to revive..I was looking for another one but this one is cool, too.

I just got a great new recipe I am going to make for thick spicy hot chocolate, with cardammon, orange, chocolate, milk, cinnamon, a bit of chocolate pudding powder and sugar, hmmmmm.

Any other new winter drinks somebody discovered?

I've got one...

Double vodka or gin
Slices of fresh, peeled ginger
Real lemonade or coudy if you can't get real
Pink peppercorns or thinly sliced fresh red chilli

Just add the ingredients to a tall glass in the order given. This makes a refreshing but spicy long drink and it's definitely warming.
