Vegetarian and vegan Indian recipes

Manjula started her cooking 'show' in her very simple kitchen - but now has got so many followers, she's got a new one, and dresses much posher than she used to she also has a 'gluten free' section.

She is great and I love her recipes:

Re: Vegetarian and vegan Indian recipes

I have found recipes in the 'Gujarati' section at www.indianrecipevideo.com very accurate, in the sense that the taste is very genuine and not at all 'westernised'. Most recipes are without meat / beef / fish / eggs, however now is perhaps not a good time to use the 'v word' on EF

Also www.aayisrecipes.com is very genuine 'south Indian'. Her trick for making idly batter rise is fantastic!

Re: Vegetarian and vegan Indian recipes

sva are you a good Indian cook? How about organising an Indian cooking workshop here - I'll provide the venue - and you could charge the others?

Another one is www.showmethecurry.com. However both these sites are more 'westernized' versions of the original recipes. I prefer to keep the original Indian flavor though at times it takes more efforts

Edit: This site is not only for vegetarian recipes!

Re: Vegetarian and vegan Indian recipes

awesome thread.

I've been on a quest to find a recipe for the perfect tarka daal..

I've tried many, but they never taste like the ones you get in London at the Indian restaurants. I'm wondering if there is a secret how to get this special oily texture and flavour

Re: Vegetarian and vegan Indian recipes

Usually the tarka (heated ghee or oil/butter with spices etc) is poured over the finished dish just before serving.

Re: Vegetarian and vegan Indian recipes

I was wondering that even though it is not vegetarian, maybe someone had a good recipe for lamb biryani? it is my alltime favourite indian food.
Also, where to get the spices for that?
