Ramen in Zurich

After coming back from a trip to Asia, I am hooked on a healthy bowl of Ramen.

Are there any restaurants in Zurich offering this ? Obviously there are variants...

Thanks

Re: Ramen in Zurich

Hi,

There is a Wagamama in Zurich that serves different types of ramen. I know it's a chain restaurant, so might not suit your taste if you want something authentic. Otherwise I would try calling a few Japanese or Korean restaurants.

Good luck!

Re: Ramen in Zurich

There is Ooki in Stauffacher which specialises in noodle soups. I've tried to go there a few times but its always packed so I think reservations are definitely a must.

Re: Ramen in Zurich

this place opposite Bahnhof Binz has the best Vietnamese Pho Soup I have found in Zurich. Can't really comment on what else they have, I mainly order that, maybe with a couple summer rolls (the soup is addictive). They serve it with a platter of fresh cut spices and lemon on the side. Ask for hoisin sauce to go with it.

Re: Ramen in Zurich

For the pho soup, very reasonable. Something like 18.00 for a large bowl, but it is full of noodles and beef, well worth the price. The best I've had in Zurich. The also do lunch buffet, but the pho is the highlight.

In my opinion Ooki is the best ramen restaurant in town.

Nooch in steinfelsareal near Hardbrücke, other location see www.nooch.ch. Great for lunch or before you visit abaton cinema theatre.
For evening outing I'd prefer Nooba at Kreutzplatz

Re: Ramen in Zurich

I just went to Ooki (or Ikoo, which is how it is on the sign) - and it was great! We went early on Saturday evening, just after they opened, and were able to get a spot for two. http://www.ikoo.ch/ Note that it is cash only.

Re: Ramen in Zurich

Reviving this thread, any other suggestions on ramen in Zurich apart from Ooki? I have been to Ooki and would love to try a new one. Honestly, I feel reluctant to try Wagamama and Nooch . Any idea?

Re: Ramen in Zurich

Been to Wagamama several times and the ramen as you would expect, decent but nothing more and compared to the UK prices are well excessive...London had a ramen boom in the last couple of years surely there is a market for it in Zurich as well

Wagamama is never decent in any Japanese sense, esp its ramen.

Re: Ramen in Zurich

followed the advice above and went to Ikoo. Disappointed to say the least but I guess it depends how high you set the bar and with what you compare it too. Perhaps its the best ramen in Zurich but I fear its equivalent of saying the best ramen in addis ababa. By London standards (at least the 3-4 best places in Soho) the ramen would be at best a 4 out of 10 (3/10 the gyoza). The ramen wasn't fresh (packaged), the egg overcooked, the pork slice uneventfully plain, the ginger overpowering anyhow if you are used to really top notch ramen then it is a flop but hey by (the now very high local standards) it might be a home run.

Re: Ramen in Zurich

There is a Wagamama but they don't use the same recipes as the Wagamama in the UK. I complained once to the manager about their Chilli Beef Ramen which was nowhere near as spicy as the British version - he told me that they reduce the spicules to suit local tastes. So, they do have ramen, but honestly I found it a bit disappointing and haven't been back there. Hopefully you can find somewhere better!

Re: Ramen in Zurich

For Ramen: I LOVE Takano City. Near the city center off of Löwenstrasse. Huge bowl. 18 chf. http://takano.ch/en/

For Pho: Restaurant Siagon has a good one. Very fresh. 18.50chf and they have various meat options you can choose from. Not just beef. http://www.saigon.ch/web/
This place is always busy over lunch so go early or after the lunch rush.

After trying ramen almost everywhere in switzerland, I've come to the same conclusion that I have with chinese food here: either make it yourself or save your money and fly to Asia.

Re: Ramen in Zurich

I didn't mind Ooki at Stauffacher. HOWEVER, I did notice I was super thirsty afterwards so I am suspicious that there is some MSG in the soup which was slightly disappointing. But, I enjoyed it during the meal and was decent enough considering I can't be too picky in Europe =)

Re: Ramen in Zurich

More Pho than Ramen, but I've really enjoyed Asiaway in Oerlikon. Also lots of other tasty non-soup dishes

I would recommend to fly to Düsseldorf first, not further away and you still can get authentic Japanese food
