Re: Tips for an indian restaurant in ZH

Try here.

Or just go to the Tandoori BBQ at Stockerstrasse.

Re: Tips for an indian restaurant in ZH

My English friends and I make a point of trying all the Indian restaurants in ZH and comparing them. It used to be that Kings Kurry in Wiedikon was the best (for us) but for the last year or so I would say go to Masala in Stauffacher. If you like it hot just ask for 'indian spicy' otherwise you get very mild curries.

Re: Tips for an indian restaurant in ZH

sorry, but the vast majority are pretty average. masala in stauffacher imho is the best has a nice ambience and is good for the romance thing.

I'd recommend kerala too, it's by far the best curry place I've found in Zurich.

Re: Tips for an indian restaurant in ZH

I think Vulkan is more intimate and cozy and the fact it is on Klingenstrasse always makes me giggle.

Close to HB
http://restaurant-vulkan.ch/

But again not romantic .I am not sure i know any romantic Indian Restaurant unless you think the English style ones with velvet wallpaper and Christmas lights..

It does not matter it will be the food, the company will make it Romantic

Just been reminded
The Spice Gourmet looks and feels a little more Romantic

Close to Bahnhof Enge

Re: The best Indian curry in Zurich?

Tried the Kobal two years ago and I didn't like very much... my tikka masala tasted a little strange and if I remember correctly it has some sort of fruit in it, which I found most irritating.

Vulkan near HB is ok, been there a few times as it's just around the corner, but the dishes are too small and bland for exorbitant prices. The owner and the service is alright, attentive and helpful though.

Best one I discovered so far is the Tandoori BBQ and I go there regularly. Although the atmosphere of the restaurant offers nothing special, I like the food, the prices and the regular very nice and personable attention of its owner, if it's not too busy. Can thoroughly recommend it over the others I tried so far.

Re: The best Indian curry in Zurich?

Tandoori BBQ is pretty decent, certainly on a par with many UK indian/bangladeshi restaurants (caveat: outside of areas where there are large indian or pakistani communities)

Re: The best Indian curry in Zurich?

3 of us went to the Masala in Stauffacher last night and had a very pleasant experience. First impressions were good, restaurant looks nice, very nice cutlery and wine glasses too!

The food was made and served nice and quickly, and tasted very nice and the service was super friendly and attentive.

We had Chicken tikka massala, tandoori Lamb special, Tandoori mixed grill, pea-rice and different nans. Had 3 or 4 different starters, and to follow Mango Lassi and Mango mousse. Received an Amis Bouche to start, compliments of the chef.

Of course not as spicy as in the UK, but that doesn't matter when it tastes great - I LOVE hot and spicy food, but Indian doesn't have to be spicy to qualify it!

Definately recommend it and will be going back.

Re: The best Indian curry in Zurich?

I had some so-so stuff there a few years ago but went back a month ago and was surprised. So I will head back there again if I'm in the area.

The interior needs an uplift IMO. Expect clothes to smell of curry after

Chalet India, right outside Horgen Oberdorf Station (note, not the Horgen bahnhof down by the lake), is excellent. Nice people, nice food.

Tandoori BBQ gets my vote ...
It;s the only time I have been to a buffet and the the stuff been fresh, reasonably spiced and great to eat!
And the staff were friendly, as well !!
