King prawns, marinated in yoghurt, garlic, ginger and spices, grilled in Tandoor.'

'Murg Tikka

etc...
Thanks SZHJCN. That's what I thought too when I read the menus online. I wonder if they use real tandoors though.

I can't see why it would be considered unsanitary to cook in one.

No, no .... as I said, I never did check it out. So maybe this info is wrong. But it certainly is a few years old.

So if anyone can find out if this is right or wrong, please give us the answer. There's no need to speculate if it must be or must not be wrong ... just if anyone actually knows.

So people ...any luck with confirming whether Tandoors are permitted in commercial kitchens and whether one can buy one in CH?

Re: The best Indian curry in Zurich?

Lazy I know but as I don't yet have a car and it takes ten minutes to walk to the tram and then fifteen minutes to get to the Karala does anyone know of an Indian that will deliver food? Working late hours and don't always have food in the apartment so sometimes need a takeaway brought here. Only place we've found so far is Dominos and that place is really expensive compared to the UK and we're not overly keen on it.

This guy's interesting too. Heston Blumenthal About 6 minutes into this video he explains the need for a tandoor and the way it cooks.
At 7:20 he goes scientifc and shows how to build a tandoor to reach the 380 degrees heat in his own back yard.
Quite techy:

Doesn't the KurryWorld at Sihl City have a tandoor for cooking naans?
I can't believe it would reach 380 degrees so near the public though.

So my advice - avoid.

Re: The best Indian curry in Zurich?

Just a quick update on Khan's. It seemed to get good reviews early in this thread. I ate there just before Christmas.

The food and service was OK, but certainly not exceptional. The meal was milder than I expected.

I did consider CHF 7.50 for a small bottle of Kingfisher to be a bit on the steep side.

Ronnie - how is this the "best indian curry" in zurich (see thread title)? It's just a list of restaurants. Could you give your opinion or rate them?

Re: The best Indian curry in Zurich?

Hey Nanda,

I just thought I would help people like me, who are new here and don't know where to find such places, so that they could get a curry and then submit their reviews.

And for the people who have been here a while, there might be a few outlets on the list that they haven't been to.

It all adds to eventually finding the 'Best Curry.' There's no point in people commenting on the same 5 restaurants over and over again. Clearly tastes differ & vary, and a restaurant that one person likes, may not be favoured by another.

My list might not aid the thread directly, but I know it helps curry fans in Zürich who don't have the time to browse hundreds of pages of forums to find one. It certainly helps me and I wanted to share it. What is wrong with that?

Good for you Ronnie an excellent response to a frankly worthless question more about thread compliance rules than the subject.
This now gives people a good base from which to try them out and then comment. The whole purpose of the thread surely.

What Nanda has to say is valid. Curry Restaurants come and go; the reviews you have read were on existing restaurants at that time... that were tried.

Nanda has a point, if this was meant as an invitation for testing - as is the purpose of this thread - you should remove the addresses of places that were already reviewed.

Re: The best Indian curry in Zurich?

All,

Just discovered this event at Lady Hamilton Pub close to Zurich HB. It is called as curry evening and is a monthly curry event. This is one of the best curry I have had in long time. They also serve as caterers and office lunch(Never tried that though).

Check it out: http://www.bestcurry.ch/

Also worth mentioning that I have no monetary or any other interest, just that I have been to the event twice and found it great.

Many people including me order this in office, especially on thursdays the non-veg menu is good according to my friends. I find the veg menu also good enough.

Re: The best Indian curry in Zurich?

Sure Nanda has a point and what he says is valid, but as I and cricketer explained, I am trying to help people, what this forum is all about. What I posted can only help people find their best curry, it does not hurt. Period.

With stressful jobs, crappy bosses, horrible weather ... do we really need to be so anal on this forum? I see this happen too often. I want info and I want to help give people info. I am not on englishforum to discuss technicalities, no time for that. Can't believe I have to explain myself !!!!

Timpy & Pickles,
Thanks for the recommendation. Checked the website out, looks great! Will definitely be going there on Monday.

Cricketer, nice to see I'm not alone. Cheers.

I can easily access a list of indian restaurants in zurich - they are directories for this. What is not easily obtained are recommendations, someone who has found a jewel or two. Most of us don't have time to go through all the restaurants and if we are going to pay Zurich prices, give us some good food!

That is why imho, your post missed the point of this thread. But I leave it up to the good mods to decide how they want this thread to proceed. And to delete/move this post as it has nothing to do with indian food.

Have a good weekend all!
