Missing hot chips (Basel)

It's been 3 months since I've had hot chips.

Please, can you actually buy hot chips anywhere near Basel?
(and no, McDonalds doesn't count). I've been doing a bit of an informal study of kebap places, but the chips aren't taken to the art-form-level that I need.

I've been fantasizing about driving to Belgium.

Do the cravings ever go away?

Re: Missing hot chips (Basel)

Some years ago when I work at Telco called Diax, I fancied some fish and chips my manager who was from Munich not an English person at all! took me out for dinner to a little restaurant along Seestrasse between Richterswil and Freienbach, he always told me the area was known as "not so sunny side of lake zurich in the summer" and he lived there.

Well I can tell you we had the best fish and chips in Switzerland at this place, I just wish I could remember the name of the place? the guy who ran the place was from Manchester has been ther for some 20 years married to a swiss and he also had boddingtons on draught and had the finest whisky selection too.

Good luck

Re: Missing hot chips (Basel)

When I was younger and not so very old I used to arrange Fish Chip and mushy pea nights. We used to go to a restaurant where I'd drop off the peas for soaking the night before. And now I'm not so young and complacent in so many way's why doesn't someone else arrange it and make my bloody day!

hmmm, that's a hard one! Have you ever tried "Fischknusperli" in a Swiss restaurant? It's little pieces of fish in batter with chips and guess the nearest you get to actual Fish and Chips over here.

I've seen that on the menu before. What kind of fish? I was thinking they might be from eglifilet?

yep, it's Egli. As I am totally unaware of taste differences in fish i do not know how Egli compares to Haddock, Sole etc...But they're really nice!
