Italian Grocery in Zurich?

Can somebody help me find/recommend to me an authentic Italian grocery store in Zurich city? (or no more than 10 mins tram ride from city center)

Looking for things like 00 flour for pizza, and more traditional things that you can't get in Coop..

thanks!

When I lived in Zurich there used to be a lady in Kreis 5 that ran an Italian store where they sold arancini and other awesome things. Not at all a grocery store, just a little shop, but it was nice. I can't remember the name or the street...Swisspea and Prof. Taratonga, help me out please!

Re: Italian Grocery in Zurich?

That would be Aleardi: http://aleardi.ch

24 minutes by bus 31 from Zurich main station.

They're more a store for restaurants - but they do sell to non-business owners, too.

I haven't been there for a long time, but the store does have a broad selection.

I'm sure, if you're home-sick, you'll find something there to soothe it.
;-)

Thanks so much for your reply. I actually found out about this shop already, but it is 30-40 minutes from me by public transport. Was hoping to find something closer.. if not I'll try this one

Anyone else know of other shops in Zurich city?

Re: Italian Grocery in Zurich?

For a big selection, I second Aleardi. Out of the way, but tons of fun. On occasions when all I want is tipo 00 flour, that can be had at Valentino, in Zurich HB. It costs about 5 CHF there (about a 1 chf more than Aleardi, and way way less than Globus or Jemoli) and worth the time saved.

Re: Italian Grocery in Zurich?

You should try Aligros in Schlieren, they also sell products for restaurants but they have many italian products that you cannot find in coop.

Re: Italian Grocery in Zurich?

About the only Italian products that can't be found in Coop or Migros is Nodino di Vitello for EUR 19/kg, or Fiorentina for tha same.

(aka last night's dinner (fiorentina) or toady's lunch (nodini))

Of couse, perhaps the local Coop/Migros/Denner carry more Italian stuff around here.

Tom

Re: Italian Grocery in Zurich?

there is an italian shop in Motorenstrasse, which has buy the way some of the best and cheapest sandwiches in Zurich. The italian lady prepares every day some antipasti and paté, one sandwich costs like CHF 9 and is huge. This same shop has also other italian products for sale

Re: Italian Grocery in Zurich?

@The_Wiseguy - the sandwich place you reco'd was great. Thanks for mentioning it.

For the record though, it's on Gasometerstrasse, not Motorenstrasse. I almost gave up and went home, but decided to see if it was on a parallel street - which it was. You can identify it by the green, white and red sign outside.
