Turkish Dining Place (no kebab or imbiss food)

Hi,

I wonder if there is a nice Turkish restaurant in Zurich which serves delicious Aegean food (from Izmir, Manisa, Aydin areas).

I don't want a kebab/doner place but a restaurant with a menu full of dishes like yaprak sarmasi, enginar, karniyarik, imambayildi, hunkarbegendi, guvec, and of course various mezes.

Food needs to be authentic, not tailored for taste of locals.

Thanks

These two are more about mezes than your standard kebob fare, but I don't know enough to say if they are exactly what you are looking for. If you go, I'd be curious to hear your opinion:

Try Cedre (Lebanese) if Meze ist what you are after
Maison Blunt has a nice and relaxed touch interieur-wise. The food is not Turkish though, rather Morrocan

I too would be interested to hear about genuine Turkish restaurants

Wow...the OP couldn't have been more specific with his request if he tried!

Klein Istanbul, Niederdorf, Zurich - a mini review

Service here is iffy, food is good.

It is actually a surprise that there are not more real Turkish restaurants in Zurich.

Re: Turkish Dining Place (no kebab or imbiss food)

Hi!
There is a cozy place very close to Goldbrunnenplatz that in the morning is a Swiss cafè and in the late afternoon is a Turkish restaurant! It is called Ferdinand and the prices are also good! I recommend the mezzeh and the pasta called Manti!

I will also be looking for a real one and post here if I can find one.

@aSwissInTheUS: I had a guest explicitly asked for a Turkish one.

The opening times are a bit unclear, according to the times on the door it should have been open on Wednesday. It was not.. But it looked like it is still in business.

PS: That is a Turkish place. Not Lebanese, Syrian, or Greek.

Re: Turkish Dining Place (no kebab or imbiss food)

Not sure if this thread is still live as it has been a while since the last message but I too similarly have been on the look out for good, authentic Turkish food. I`m so surprised there isn`t more (and I am not referring to the few Kebab shacks scattered around Central Zurich).

I cam across this via Google searching: http://www.01ocakbasi.ch/index.html

Not sure if its still open but worth a shot? If I manage to get there I will update this post with my feedback.

Enjoy

the Valentins apparently is a Kind of successor to the Manesse (never been there up to now)

I personally of course prefer the Arab variety (Cèdre, Palme de Beirut, Maison Blunt, Perle de Beirut BUT appreciate the Turkish cuisine indeed

Just drove by that one, never noticed it before. It seems to be in full business, they have now a big banner toward Bernstrasse Nord.

la-la-land has become a little unpopularla-la-land has become a little unpopular
Re: Turkish Dining Place (no kebab or imbiss food)

I am from Turkey and lived /travelled in many different countries. Among those, despite the Turkish population, Zurich is the worst when it comes to decent Turkish food.Even Helsinki was far better!
but back to the question, these are the restaurants in Zurich

By Elvis Ocakbasi Restaurant : the food is tasty and service is the best. As many other Turkish restaurants, the owner used to run a little kebab imbiss, then turned to a restaurant but the managing quality is still in imbiss standarts. weird decoration, loud music, mix of traditional and modern but not in a cool way.

01ocakbasi: it is the last stop of tram 17. i have been there 2-3 times. food is ok, service is terrible , decoration is same like elvis style. i don t like there, but there are many who loves it.

Bodrum: the name comes from Bodrum which is the most popular touristic town in Turkey. it used to be a small fisherman village in 70s. and this restaurant reminds me that Bodrum in 70s. Plastic table chair sets outside, simple food, slow but friendly service. I like the atmosphere but for it is not a place for everyone.

cafe ferdinand: as mentioned in a previous thread, it runs as a italian cafe during the day and a turkish restaurant in the evenings it is homemade traditonal turkish food like manti , dolma, zeytinyagli fasulye..ec. no kebab or such.

valentins: the owner of bodrum restaurant and valentins are same. it is a family restaurant. the food is good, they don t have doener kebab but have similar stuff..(iskender, ali nazik..etc) service is friendly, prices are not cheap, decoration is the best compared to others.

Bebek: it was the most trendy bar of 2014 summer and still it is very popular. the owners are swiss and the restaurant /cafe is inspired from the Bebek district of Istanbul. the menu is full with turkish meze style food. They have cocktails named as Gezi park, Mersini ..etc. As I remember in the menu there was ; borek, cacik, musakka, muammara, hellim kizartma, mercimek corba, kisir, ezme.. Service is great, ambience is number one. In the end it is not a Turkish restaurant and food is updated for Europeans ( no salca, or not too spicy) but still it my number 1 stop to have Turkish food
