Meat import limit via the Airport?

My dad is visiting this weekend and is bringing me some goodies from the UK, he also wants to bring a beef roasting joint. If its less than 1kg does he have to declare it at the customs or not?

thanks!

Re: Meat import limit via the Airport?

As he's a tourist and not a resident, I don't know if the 1kg reg applies to him or not. Best to either contact Swiss Customs direct here:

http://www.ezv.admin.ch/kontakt/index.html?lang=en

Or declare it to be on the safe side.

Re: Meat import limit via the Airport?

My inlaws bring loads and have never declared anything or been caught (around 10 times so far)

Usually black pudding, haggis, bacon, lorne sausage..
And the one that goes down in legend for me, a steak pie.. In a foil tin with big puff pastry on top, about 30x40cms and over a kilo.

How it survived the trip intacts, never mind upright we'll never know.

PS : Yes - Each time I tell them that we do have shops in switzerland and that we are not poor.. But hey.

Yeah, but which ones stock black puddings, haggis, bacon, lorne sausage and steak pies? Even bacon and ordinary sausages are different here to what they are in the UK. Just as tasty, but different.

No he does not - because it is less than 1 kg.

It doesn't matter if he's a resident or a tourist, if he imports more than the allowed amount of meat ( or anything else for that matter) into Switzerland he should declare it.
If the total is less than 1 kg then there is no problem and he doesn't need to do anything.

Here's one thread about it but there are others.

Friends coming to visit or going skiing from UK- remind them of import limits...

Re: Meat import limit via the Airport?

IIRC there is a sign saying that all meat imported needs to be declared. This may have changed.

If it's less than 1KG then just declare it. If there is nobody there then walk through. Whenever I've gone to tell them I've got some meat in the past they just wave me through.

Re: Meat import limit via the Airport?

Does fish and seefood also count towards 1kg meat import limit? Or is there seperate limit for fish/seafood?

Re: Meat import limit via the Airport?

OK found it: http://www.ezv.admin.ch/zollinfo_pri...x.html?lang=fr
Looks like fishes are excluded and there is no limit for them
