Monopol Hotel in Lucerne in the news for glutton-shaming guests

I have to say that I agree with the manager's sentiment, just don't know if the pix of the starving kids is the best way to get the message across.

As for a US site picking up on food wastage in a Swiss Hotel - I can only assume the guests were Americans

Came up last week. Could also say if the African leaders didn't skim most of the money pot to buy mercs and private jets and the locals didn't have goats that eat everything etc...

Manager is probably more pissed off people are eating lots and reducing her profits.

Possibly.

We don't let our children do it at home. If we put food on their plates then it's fine but if they want second helpings and then don't eat it then I'll let them know I'm not happy.

I've told them they can eat as much as they want but they shouldn't waste food.

Gluttony is not exactly an admirable trait.

Re: Monopol Hotel in Lucerne in the news for glutton-shaming guests

I travel a lot when i was working with my last company. I stayed often in Morges. Every morning, I have to get up early and go to breakfast lounge as soon as it open. If I am late, the chaos in the breakfast lounge usually ruin my appetite . Left over on tables - a lot!, the breakfast buffet look like a tornado just passed by. Not to mention how loud it is. The good side is, I've never come late to work ...

Its good that the manager have the initiative to take action. She can't change the world, but that little step might help to remind people to be more reasonable/considerable on what/how they eat and not wasting things away. What I don't agree is the way she presented her idea. Those pictures is kind of disturbing in a breakfast lounge. Written reminders perhaps better?

The Chinese buffet restaurant I went to in Middlesbrough (I know -such a glamourous lifestyle) had a small notice saying they reserved the right to add 10% to the bill for excessive uneaten food.

What a silly, patronising person.

Good grief what idiocy, like it would make a difference to people starving in developing countries, if you don't finish your greens at a hotel in Switzerland. Food waste in the West is terrible but not the cause of Famines.
