Re: Food cost in Zürich?

A large beer will be from around 7 up to about 11 CHF if you drink out.

In the supermarket a pack of 6 cans will vary from about 4.50 to about 12 CHF.

Edit : 1.85 for a six pack here

Re: Food cost in Zürich?

vodka (made from potatoes) costs from 20CHF for the cheap stuff all the way up to 40CHF if bought in stores.
In restaurants, that price will skyrocket.
it has about 200 calories per 100gr of it

Re: Food cost in Zürich?

Ok, maybe I should be a bit more concrete.

What do following things cost roughly?

Meat (Chicken?)
Vegetables (potatoes, chillis, paprika, salads, corn, spinach)
Fruits (Apple, banana, peach, mango, strawberries, frozen berries in general)
Drinks (Mineral water, Cola, Fanta, Sprite, Juices, Ice Tea)

Re: Food cost in Zürich?

Meat (Chicken?)
pricy AF. coop or migros sell 100gr for like 4-6CHF. If you shop in germany you can buy that much for a kg

Fruits (Apple, banana, peach, mango, strawberries, frozen berries in general)
if you buy apples from turkish stores you can get away with 1-2CHF per kg for apples.
Drinks (Mineral water, Cola, Fanta, Sprite, Juices, Ice Tea)
In supermarkets about 0.50CHF per 500ml for water still.

or you could just google migros, coop, aldi supermarkets and check their prices

Re: Food cost in Zürich?

Welcome to the Forum, and soon to Switzerland.

I know you asked specifically about food, but as a student I imagine you'll soon have questions about other costs, such as housing, cell phones, insurance, etc. Here are some threads that I think cover the topic nicely, including links and examples of actual expenses. The first one is a bit old, but quite comprehensive and worth a look. The second is more recent:

Cost of living - help needed to get it right

Cost of living in Switzerland-with examples

There are more than 100 threads that talk about cost of living. Some might be relevant to you and others not, but do have a read through the more recent ones. There's a LOT of good advice in there.

Re: Food cost in Zürich?

This may be a helpful link. Not as relevant as "boots on the ground" responses but good for relative costs.

Be prepared for shocks on some items!

Also, you may also want to check out the links on the forum to the foods that aren't readily available here that people miss from home!

First of all it depends on where you do your shopping. Meat can be relatively cheap in Denner, Lidl or Aldi but not always the best quality. (for a bit less than 4 chf you can have a package of marinated chicken wings, things like that)
Same for fruits, vegs and more or less for drinks - Lidl/Aldi can have lots of cheapo brands.

And btw, you got groaned by Richdog 3 times! This guy never ceases to amuse me...
Anyway, hope you'll be able to manage on a student budget.

Re: Food cost in Zürich?

If you go for reduced articles (in the evening), avoid beef and pork, shop at least once a week over the border, don't eat out, your budget for Food and beverage should end in around 300-350 srf( per month).

Not sure why you could not find this out, especially since you live in Germany...

just check out the Swiss website of Aldi and you know what's up:
https://www.aldi-suisse.ch/de/

This is the largest super market chain in the country:

Richdog lives in a parallel universe. Rather than EF being a brand new website with barely any content like in the real world, over there it's been going for years and years and people have asked many questions on the cost of living. Oh and the regulars get bored of lazy people asking the same questions over and over.

Btw chicken breasts are CHF 16 a kilo in Lidl. The quality is fine. The fruit and veg selection can be eclectic, but the quality for the price is fine.

Evidently the Three Billy Goats Gruff must have cancelled their appointment. Either that or it was chucking out time at the pub.

Have you thought about going on coop.ch or the Migros online shop and checking prices of different items there?

Otherwise, tell you what, I'll go round my local Coop for you and tot up the cost of a weekly shop. And why do you want to waste money on mineral water? We do have tap water here you know!

Well, I did go to Coop.ch but I thought it was very expensive. I didn't know that Aldi and Lidl are located in Switzerland as well. And mostly people living there probably know some tips to save some money, like the suggestion with shopping in Germany.

Nut if you are serious with telling me how much your weekly shop costs, it would be really nice.
