Re: best swiss beer after a hot day?

I guess most locals would say the beer from the town they grew up in.
For me it would be Schützengarten, from the guys from Gossau (SG) it would be Stadtbühler, for those from Appenzell Quöllfrisch

In a blind test all of us would probably go for another one but with the lable on the difference is huge - really.

Re: best swiss beer after a hot day?

I'm not especially a Feldschlössen fan, but the subject of beer is indeed, subjective. Their beers are generally not exactly what Michael Jackson would call an exceptional beer, and I wouldn't normally promote them.
However, I was at a Swiss friends BBQ last Sunday and they produced a can of Braufrisch. I was sceptical at first, but on pouring it into the glass was pleasantly surprised. Its an unfiltered natural beer, and I found it very refreshing.

I was told it was a seasonal beer, because I don't recall seeing it before in the supermarket, but I believe it is simply new, and their website doesn't say otherwise. It's in quite a distinctive red can or bottle.

Before you knock it, give a cold one a try.

Thanks for the tip, grumpygrapefruit. Found the Sommers Blonde at Drinks of the World and I bought a couple of bottles. Just need the sun to return now for maximum enjoyment.

Re: best swiss beer after a hot day?

Here's my personal Swiss beer ranking from the past week -

1 Chopfab Trueb
2= Sudwerk Gold Miner
2= BierFactory Mystery Solved
3 BierFactory Sommers Blonde
---
Chopfab Hell

More or less in order from less sweet (which is my preference) to more sweet taste/aftertaste. I plan to buy Chopfab Trueb again and see if it still tastes as good with different food on a different day, maybe I wouldn't rush to try the others again. The Chopfab Hell is well-named because that is what beer tastes like while you are in hell. For anyone like me wondering about the name 'Chopfab', here is an article that explains all -

Adlerbräu, which you can find in the brewery itself in Canton Glarus (Brauerei Adler, Hauptstrasse 34, 8762 Schwanden), or in Netstal at the store 'Walhalla'. Here is the website:http://www.brauereiadler.ch

Re: best swiss beer after a hot day?

If you wanna try something new check for the special-brew "Together". It's brewed by the swiss national ice-hockey team for it's fans But it's not that easy to find...

errrr no. It's brewed by Chopfab in Winterthur. Who are sponsors of the national team. It's a very nice summer beer, as I said earlier in this thread

Re: best swiss beer after a hot day?

The Adler Panix Perle is good, quite light but with a decent maltiness (is that a word?).

Quöllfrisch Naturtrüb is good, seems less fizzy that the clear ones and of course more nutty.

In any case, Ländi is a good place to look they have a wide range and cheap, although I find their Farmer own brand tastes what you'd expect for the cost - OK for a third or fourth bottle!
