I like 'Swiss Cereal Drink Hirse' (millet) and 'Swiss Cereal Drink Hafer' (oat) from Soyana.

Re: Vegan alternative to dairy milk for the coffee?

I think it just takes time and sooner or later you get used to it.
I was vegetarian for 16 years and 3 years ago I slowly moved towards plant based diet only.
At the beginning I had difficulties drinking coffee with rice/soy/almond/u name it drinks, so I decided to drink black coffee instead.
After half a year or so, I tried to experiment with all sorts of vegan drinks. At the beginning I drank each vegan drink just as it is – and not mixed with the coffee. This way it was easier for me to adapt to the taste. Only after I figured out which vegan “milk” I actually like, I started mixing it with my coffee and I soon found it extremely tasteful.

I normally drink Alnatura rice drink (available at Migros) or also more creamy alternative - Rice Allmond drink (available at Coop).

In Migros you can find aha sans lactose milk.

Holland and Barrett sell Lactase Enzyme tablets that help with the absorption of lactose in dairy products. They're usually the multi-buy deals, or the penny sale etc. The Lactose free milk tastes the same as "normal" milk in tea at least - I think so anyway. Mr Rufus would disagree.
Sadly I cannot tolerate the AHA lactose free milk either. I used to be able to, but now it gives me the same symptoms.

Similarly, I used to be able to "get away" with having dairy products if I took some lacdigest enzyme tablets. Now I can't.

I haven't quite worked out why I can cook with butter and not feel ill, but I guess that's just how my body works...

I can cope with butter too - and cottage cheese, bizarrely.

Intolerances are weird things.

Re: Vegan alternative to dairy milk for the coffee?

I am vegetarian and for me being vegan ..well... is a bit hard. I am just trying to reduce animal products as much as possible. Coffee is something i can never give up and black coffee, no, not my thing! I have tried rice milk as well. It didn't taste that good! But thanks a lot for all the answers!

My coffee was always black... As vegan now, that is extremely easy... Try some almond milk, but in any case i think black is better. Welldone for going Vegan! Keep on vegan!

I quite appreciate the vegans. But I haven't been successful until now. Black coffee is too strong for me but who knows...?!

Almond milk is super for porridge and smoothies. It is though rather strange with coffee. I have tried it several times, then switched back to dairy milk

I too love unsweetened almond milk with porridge. Pity there isn't a nice non-dairy creamer to go well with coffee.

Hi everyone!

I am trying to reduce the animal products in my life. I don't drink milk but just have it a bit in my coffee. I have tried every kind of plant-based drinks - except for soya and I am not a big fan of soya - but none of them gives the same taste like dairy milk.

Is there anyone who can recommend something?

Thank you!

Same here.

Was diagnosed with Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS) before 12mths old, (though it wasn't known as that back in the 60's) and apparently the cow's milk intolerence was syptomatic of that. How? I've no idea!

You can grow out of some intolerences, but some can stay for life. I can drink cows milk now without breaking out in a rash and doing the whole projectile thing, but still feel crap for a few hours afterwards. Haven't grown out of the polyester and general anaesthetic allergies though.

That's almost the same that people do to cows... but in this case nobody is allowed to remove her baby immediately after birth and take it by force to the slaughterhouse.

I found 4 years ago a non-dairy creamer in the U.S (corn syrup+ soybean oil+ soy lecithin etc).
It's not bad...but i still drink my coffee black.

By the way i have many vegan recipes to share with you all, maybe is a good idea to create a ''vegan food corner'' and organise vegan meetings. Thankfully, some of my greek dishes help me keep on going vegan

That sounds disgusting.

You're still destroying the rain forests to grow soybean.

I cook and eat vegan meals (sometimes) but I never think, oh this would taste so much better if there was some chicken substitute in it, for example.

If people want milk in their coffee then have it. No one thinks you're a better person because you suddenly become vegan (apart from fellow vegans).

Re: Vegan alternative to dairy milk for the coffee?

Since there doesn't seem to be any great option to replace the cow's milk here, let me throw in another suggestion, which is to focus on making coffee that tastes good without milk. I think it's a matter of doing whatever is necessary to reduce bitterness. Good espresso seems to have that property, but I don't know how they do it (some sweet spot of temperature, pressure, grind consistency, and packing density, I suppose). I just got a new cone filter system (Chemex) and that seems to work well in this regard without much effort.

What can i reply back?...you totally misunderstand me, but it's ok.
I am a good person or i'm trying to be as good as possible every single day and not suddenly. For sure, not because i choose veganism, suddenly...
It was black humour, dear...

Not every vegan does either though Or not every vegetarian does with meat. I was a vegetarian for many years in my teens and into early adulthood, for the simple fact that I didn't like the taste of meat, so I also never missed it and didn't look for a substitute either. I know other vegetarians who don't eat meat for that very same reason.

Not very vegan let alone vegetarian is a missionary know-it-all preaching to others how they're supposed to live. Yes of course there are some that think they are better than others and act and behave accordingly, but not everyone is like that.

It's a nuisance indeed. I may be understating...

I didn't figure out the lactose thing until I was 25. Just lots of stomach "issues" and the general "malaise" that can linger with intolerances - anywhere between 20 minutes and two weeks after ingestion, apparently!

I also can't eat the fancy lettuces you get in the lovely salads vegan restaurants produce. Nothing related to the radicchio (?) family can pass these lips. Is iceberg only for me...
