I think its funny that the modern version (1998) has decided that it is not suitably fashionable/mainstream enough to require an inclusion! I agree with Belgianmum, it's interesting to see how it has evolved as a little snippet of social history ...

Of course - those who consider their stomachs before sociology ...

That'll keep you going!

What I do remember is that you need a sugar thermometer and it is thick chewy stuff - be careful when eating otherwise the cost of treacle and syrup will pale in comparison to the dental bills

Just checked in mine, and it had already been removed in the 1980 edition.

Oh dear, I might need to head to Specsavers or something. I read this thread more than once and could not figure out why you were all so excited to put treacle in coffee and then try not to burn it on the hob.

The ignorant Swissie here , I never have tasted treacle toffee....upon reading the recipe and putting two and two together.....

....I was just wondering.....is this something alike the CARAMBAR bar/stick one can buy here??
