Re: Indian Paneer -geneva

For all thoses who don't know what Paneer is..here goes...

Paneer is a type of cheese indigenous to the Indian subcontinent that is called for in many Indian recipes. It is easy to make and since it does not require the use of rennet, it's completely vegetarian. To make it yourself, all you need is milk, an acid (like lemon or lime juice, vinegar)

Follow the wiki link below...Pictures, lesson et al...

I tried it....tastes better than Amul stuff...

Re: Indian Paneer -geneva

Hi:

Here is a video recipe for making paneer (www.wonderhowto.com)

I also find the chilled matter paneer (Anna's Best brand) from big coop/migros supermarket in Geneva airport surprisingly good.

Re: Indian Paneer -geneva

yup indian stores.. THanks these will help..

I am living in carouge at the moment nand haven't seen any here.. We're looking for an apartment to rent in geneva or nyon.. So that's why wanted to know my options available.

My husband will be working in meyrin so that works great!

Isn't there a community or directory that lists all these indian and asian stores.. I love the asian stores with all the thai sauces and migoreng and stuff.

Yep, sérac is different stuff. It is a whey cheese, made from what's left over after all the casein and fat, used to make normal cheese, have been removed. Being a vegetarian with all those great indian dishes to enjoy is really no loss (paneer and pea curry, mmm).
I have to say that serac is a poor substitute for real Paneer. We use it when there is no other choice. It is limp, it has not texture it doesn't generally "hold" well.

Under the circumstances, I would give my right arm for Amul Paneer even if it is frozen
