Re: looking for Cheddar cheese in Basel area

Thanks everyone, I got 7 (!) packs of pre-packed Cathedral cheddar cheese - 200 gr for 4.90 francs in Dreispitz Migros!

We buy Cathedral Cheddar every week at the Migros on Claraplatz. It is located in the hard cheeses shelf. You have to search a bit as they tend to move it around.

Also, Manor on Greifengasse often has Cheddar in the cheeses section.

Though if you are going to grate it into macaroni cheese, any Swiss hard cheese will do the trick - e.g. Gruyere Surchoix.

HTH.

I stopped using Cheddar cheese for cooking (and eating, too, really) when I discovered that Gruyere gives a much better result. Cheddar seems to ooze its fat when it's cooking.

Re: looking for Cheddar cheese in Basel area

I'll be in Basel for the first time, at the Pickwick Pub, next Thursday evening, 23rd April for St George's Day. Come and try some real cheddar cheese (from a farm, not a factory ) for free - I will have a little to sell on the night as well. Swiss Bob's Spiffing Ales will also be on draught for that evening only. (His ale and our cheese will also be at Baden on the 17th, Zurich 18th, Luzern 19th, Zug 21st and Bern 22nd)

I'll be back in Basel again on Sunday 17th May for the Expat-Expo, again, free cheese tasting all day (this time I'll also have some great Scottish and maybe some Welsh cheeses too, as well as loads of chutney and oat cakes etc).

Hope to meet some of you Basel EFer's at last!
