Coop will have some cheddar at the cheese counter.

LOL at mexican food with English cheddar - is it an authentic recipe?

Why not? Mexican beers are based off of German lager beers.

the Co-op sells Cathedral City Cheddar which is cheap and fine for grating on chilli. If you want the real thing though.......

Re: looking for Cheddar cheese

I have bought Cathedral Mature Cheddar from various Migros and I can usually find cheddar at the cheese counter in Coop and Manor. I always ensure that I am fully stocked up with English Cheddar... (but that's not to say i dont enjoy Swiss cheese!)

Re: looking for Cheddar cheese

Well...most of our (US) cheddar, sharp/extra sharp, is orange! Have a look:

Great for Mexican food, but not up to Grumpy's standards...

Re: looking for Cheddar cheese

How exciting that good-ol-fashion English Cheddar is available in Migros and Coop. We moved here 2 months ago and I have always been a bit fussy about cheeses. I was surviving my Cheddar craving by eating Edamer - but it just not the same.
Thanks for the info.

Re: looking for Cheddar cheese

Also in the Basel area, you can find chedder at Marktkauf over the border in Weil at the end of the No. 8 & over the french border at Geant in St Louis.

In Basel itself aside what has already been mentioned above, the cheese shop on Colmererstasse has a hand full of UK cheeses including chedder - they also have a cheese stall on the market in Marktptz.

Re: looking for Cheddar cheese

I got some Cathedral City Cheddar in Migros yesterday - felt a bit like coals to Newcastle buying foreign cheese in Switzerland, but my kids were thrilled!
