| | | Danish Food Imports
Hi,
I have been living in Switzerland for a while now, and though I go to Denmark one/twice a year, and bring back lots of Danish food (leverpostej, remolade, flaeskesvaer, koed/mel-boller, rullepoelse, roede poelser), it is not enough.
Does anyone have experience with buying Danish food, and importing it to Switzerland? If so, what company did you use, and how was the experience?
Thanks in advance for any sharing...

Hi!
Probably no roede poelser, but try out the food corner on any IKEA (usually close to the exit) - you may find some things there that could be a substitute to the Danish stuff e.g. Swedish meatballs (köttbullar) and liver paté (leverpastej).

Thanks! At least they have some of the things, flæskesvær og remoulade, and IKEA indeed does have their own variety of Swdish Meatballs (not good for soup).
However, how can it be that when I walk into Brugsen, Føtex, or any other Dniash grocery stre, I can find at least a shopping cart full of things I cannot get elsewhere? I have lived in the US, in the UK, in Germany, and now in Switzerland, and I can always find in Denmark what I buy down here.
There has got to be a business in Denmark, which will send frozen goods packed with Dry-Ice, even meat things?

I once tried to get my hands on a bottle of Gammel Dansk in Switzerland and my search only led to a single shop, located in Basel... shocking! |

KB | | | | | Ah, but that's another question!
This looks like a good starting point: Dænischessen.de | Quote: | | | | WER steht hinter Dænischessen Dænischessen ist ein gemeinsames Projekt dänischer Lebensmittel Produzenten und der Königlich Dänischen Botschaft in Berlin. | | | | | Above should make for some "neutrality" in giving infos, like "is there a wholesaler who exports a variety of danish products?" moaning.
Closing in, try the export dept. of Denmarks biggest wholesaler, SuperGros A/S, for pointers or quotes. Or check with smaller wholesalers ( Golden Pages). Research, research, research!
Good luck, I always welcome expats doing something about the "why can't I get ... in CH".

Thanks in advance for any sharing... | | | | | I know what you're saying. My father was Danish. I miss all that stuff that you can buy on any corner in any Danish town like leverpostej, Fontina and Havarti cheese and real Danish Sil at the Copenhagen airport. Last time I was there the shop was there on arrival, and disappeared when I left. Very disappointing. The Swedish stuff at Ikea is not really the same (the Sil is OK).

Just got a catalogue from Globus dept. store: they now have "Scandinavian Christmas" weeks with special emphasis on scandinavian products (home, dress, food & beverage).
I'd go for a tour in their food dept.
Good luck!
(I always get some Anthon Berg's boxes when I come back from Denmark)

Hi
Reading this thread and not being danish I was wondering if maybe someone could translate the names of the different danish specialities.
Would you recommend anything in particular to a non-dane? Something that is really very nice? |

Yeah, I really wish someone would sell frozen goods, just like Den Danske Sømandskirken (The Danish Sailors Church) does. However, I don't think we can get them to put a church at Lake Geneva or Interlarken, or can we?...
What I really _really_ miss, is yes warm leverpostej from the butchers (translation: leverpathe, although it is not entirely a pathe and very different from the Swedish version. The Danish is baked and the meat is more fine, whereas the Swedish is cooked and the meat is more "grainy")
However, what I truely miss, which I have still not seen anywhere else in the world is "rundstykker", especially "birkes".. yummi....
Rundstykker is basically the type of bread usually eaten in the morning in Denmark. Really tasty....especially when fresh from the baker in the morning on the way home from town on a night out... How many Danes here cannot say, that they have purchased their "rundstykker" at the bakers backdoor at 4-5 in the morining, on the way home from a night out partying..
Although, "sylteded argurker" (pickled cucumber) is also high on my list of things I miss. You just cant find the right taste and especially thickness anywhere else in the world, than Denmark.
I think, that only think I really miss about Denmark is food.... (and a few friends)...
/Peter

So cool. I have found an importer who does do Danish food imports: http://www.kurs-danmark.com/index.html
Hyg jer!
Vi havde dansk jule frokost i den Danske Klub i Liechtenstein i går, og der var alle de gode gamle danske specialiteter, og jeg var så mæt da jag kom hjem, at vi hoppede aftensmaden over
