Locally sourced home food substitutes

A few months ago I ran out of tea bags, since I a a teaaholic it is not a wise move. So what do I do, go and try and find some locally, contact one of the specialist shops or get some sent from home. Basically being a Brit I am very fussy about my UK builder tea and since I drink it by the gallon, I was pleasently surprised that ALDI`s Schwarztee Ceylon Mischung T bags have hit the spot. No more putting two locally scourced tea bags in a cup and waiting 10 minutes for the flavour to brew. I think the price is around CHF0.80 for 50 bags, bargin!

So I have solved my tea bag crisis, so what locally sourced products have solved your craving for home food.

You can get reasonable newt's eye and frog's tongue here but the ditch delivered by a drab bit is proving a right bugger

Re: Locally sourced home food substitutes

Used to love frozen roast potatoes in the UK, then Oman, then Thailand but never saw any here. On Tuesday I realised we were going to be very late getting home so later dinner and late bed for girly. Called into Zugerland and got a roast chicken and some potato squares or chunks (can't rightly remember the name), well bless me, they were astonishingly good roasted without oil they came out all crispy and golden. Definite thumbs up from us. Now where are the yorkshire puddings (apart from those I make myself)

Re: Locally sourced home food substitutes

If you are interested in buying Australian calrose brown rice, please let me know. I have a 25kg nett bag which I brought over on relocation.

Willing to sell for CHF 50.

Not sure what is brown rice? Or wondering which is better for you: brown or white rice? Have a look at this:

Re: Locally sourced home food substitutes

Just curious........why did you bring this with you if you weren't going to eat it and why is it any better than the brown rice one can buy in Migros?

Re: Locally sourced home food substitutes

Grantley, i brought 2 bags with me when I came over with my family. My stay in Switz has been cut short and I will be relocating again. Hence, my need to sell the rice. I havent compared mine with Migros' so I cant say what are the differences except that the price I am selling for is much cheaper on a per kg basis (as is normally the case when one buys in bulk).

Re: Locally sourced home food substitutes

Does anyone know what's happened to the London Store in Zug? I was looking forward to visiting it for the first time and stocking up my cupboards, but the website has been suspended. Is the shop still open? Can anyone give me the address?

Re: Locally sourced home food substitutes

By brown rice from Migros do you mean this stuff:

?

I have been searching for some decent brown rice for ages but have never found anything. So in other words, if you know of something better please let me know.

Re: Locally sourced home food substitutes

The London shop is still open but I find it to be a bit shabby, some of the food has been sourced from other places (eg Weetabix for around 9chf with the price tag printed into the cardboard from Migros) and some spice from the indian shop in Baar with their price stickers on and his at double the price.

Hmm, shame to hear that, but thanks for the info. Do they have any products that are worth a visit for, or am I better off ordering from Britshop? I'm only really looking for things like Assam tea and stuff that can't be bought in 'normal' swiss shops, that I normally bring over from my yearly trip to the UK.
