Re: Anyone seen cranberries for sale???

Couldn't agree more :-) Cranberrys are cultivated while Lingonberries aren't, thus they are usually much richer in flavour.

Preiselbeeren is a perfect stand-in for cranberry during Thanksgiving...tastes virtually the same, I think even better.

Anyhow. Globus Lausanne has fresh ones in a bag (340gm) from USA.

Enter by the rue Centrale doors directly into the food court. Directly behind the fresh fruit island is a cold display. They are there on the right hand side. If you can't see them, just ask the lady in the fruit section.
Well done, Agent Verbier!

Thanks to your excellent cranberry sleuthing skills, I was able to intercept the latest Lausanne cranberry shipment at the Globus on Rue Centrale. I now have two bags of premium Cape Cod cranberries sitting on my counter that will be made into scrumptious cranana jam in short order.

Thanks everyone for your assistance.

Case closed,

Heather

When is dinner? I need to make sure I am free
Perhaps in place of dinner we could do biscuits and homemade jam over a cup of tea sometime?

I was guessing at "la chasse" so I was inviting myself for dinner.

Homemade biscuits sound good to me as well!

Glad you were able to find them. And as is normally the case, you will now see them everywhere you go.

Re: Anyone seen cranberries for sale???

Can I ask what you use for the pectin? Do you use natural (by adding lemon or apple) or is there a powdered/liquid version I can buy in shops?

Thanks,
Gal

Re: Anyone seen cranberries for sale???

Cranberries in the bag are now available at Coop. I saw them at the Coop City in Lausanne so they are most likely in any of the larger Coop stores. They were selling for four francs something per bag of 340 gm.

Re: Anyone seen cranberries for sale???

If anyone is planning on getting cranberries for Thanksgiving you might want to think about getting and cooking them now and freezing your sauce.

I bought a bag of the Ocean Spray ones at Migros on Saturday and was hoping to keep them in the fridge until Thursday, but so many of them have gone rotten I ended up having to make them tonight. I don't know how much longer they will be around for and didn't want to take a chance on getting some later.....

I just bought some today from Migros here in Lugano. A bit far to drive for you for cranberries! Hopefully they will be arriving soon to your area.

These are the brand Habelman Bros. Company from Wisconsin. All packing is in English and they cost 5.10 CHF per package.

I found them in the refrigerated section of the fruits and veggies.
The Migros downtown?

Re: Anyone seen cranberries for sale???

I've been buying ocean spray cranberries (from Canada) at the coop in Belp and I saw some in the coop near the Bern train station. CHF 5.95 per package. I've been freezing bags of them....just in case I need some later in the season.

Oddly enough, the big coop super store in heimberg (near Thun) didn't have any.

You can also freeze the bags of cranberries as they come, no need to make sauce immediately.

I've had the problem with them rotting quickly too, over the years. This year, I've not even seen them in the shops, but was able to get some through Coop's home delivery.

Another cranberry sighting at the Coop Center 11 in Oerlikon (minus the three bags I bought). They're over with the avocados and papayas.

I've been on the lookout for cranberries for the past few weeks. According to this thread they're available in all the major grocery store chains in late autumn. However, I've checked Coop City, Globus, Manor and MMM Migros in Lausanne (both fresh and frozen sections) and haven't been able to find any yet.

I suspect I'm just a bit early for cranberry season, but for reasons that are a bit too complicated to explain here, I'd reallllllly like to get my hands on some fresh or frozen ones by mid next-week at the latest (i.e. 15.10.2008.)

Has anyone seen some for sale (with their won eyes) anywhere this early in the season? Somewhere in Lausanne/Geneva would be great, but I'll be in Bern/Luzern on Saturday and so could pick them up in that area if necessary.

Thanks in advance for any assistance that comes my way!

Heather
Hi There

Re: Anyone seen cranberries for sale???

Just for the information of anyone interested, I found bagged cranberries in Migros in Wabern/Bern yesterday. They had hidden them away cunningly practically on the floor in the fruit and veg section, but luckily I dropped my list and spotten them when I bent down (groaning) to pick it up. So Christmas dinner is assured (don't do Thanksgiving, saving energy (mine)).
