Re: Anyone seen cranberries for sale???

Sun-dried cranberries were available at Aldi in Au (Horgen/Wadenswil) yesterday. I'm sure they would be available in the other Aldi stores, too, if one is closer to you.

Re: Anyone seen cranberries for sale???

From a more local perspective, fresh Mountain Cranberries (Preiselbeere) are available at the market in Oerlikon (Saturdays) and Bürkliplatz (Tuesday and Friday). Look for the guy selling lots of fresh mushrooms (also worth purchasing)

Fresh cranberries spotted at Denner (Uster) yesterday.

If Uster Denner is selling some, I'm sure the Denners in the city must be too??

Saw fresh ones at the Kaufland in Konstanz 2 weeks ago Been thinking about buying them early this year and freezing them... Saw them almost everywhere for about 1 month last year and disappeared in mid December. Boy was I disappointed

Re: Anyone seen cranberries for sale???

For anyone who is fairly new here, if you want to make cranberry sauce for Christmas, buy them now, as they always disappear by December, and then there are no more to be found once they are gone. You can either freeze them and use them later, or make the cranberry sauce and bottle it; it keeps fine, just like jam.

Re: Anyone seen cranberries for sale???

Just to revive this old one - I saw my first cranberries of the year at Migros today. So be aware they are out there and stock up if you want them for later, as once they are gone, that's it!!

Re: Anyone seen cranberries for sale???

Migros has Ocean Spray which are my favorite. Coop recently had some brand I've never heard or before and they were already rotting and gross. Avoid, as cranberries are quite expensive here as is!

And yes, if yout want some Cranberries for desserts or sauces around Christmastime, buy them now and freeze them - they won't be around then, sadly!

I recently made an apple-craberry crumble with fresh ones - heavenly!!!

Re: Anyone seen cranberries for sale???

Sorry to revive this thread ... but this is our first christmas in Switzerland, and we have been looking for cranberries for the past few weeks without luck. I searched on EF and found this old thread.

Is this true? Cranberries are only available in November? Does anyone have some frozen cranberries in the freezer we could buy?

Or someone has seen some?

Seriously though ... We have ordered the turkey.

Note: we live in Zurich.

Many thanks!

I saw some over the weekend in Migros (Winterthur Rosenberg) and Globus (Glatt), presumably other locations have them too!

Re: Anyone seen cranberries for sale???

Apologies if it's in a post above....

Plenty of shops around Basel / France / Germany have dried cranberries.

Soaked for a few hours in brandy/water/sugar... simmer for a few hours.. perfect with the Turkey.

(As tried and tested yesterday !)

Hey, that's an interesting idea - never thought of trying it, as I usually pick up my fresh ones early on and make my sauce ahead or freeze them, but it could be good with the brandy or kirsch or whatever in it ----- hmmmmmm? Anyhow, Migros certainly has the dried cranberries available.

Re: Anyone seen cranberries for sale???

I saw them this weekend at Migros in Zurich HB still.

I've mostly stopped making classic cooked cranberry sauce. Instead, I've been making an uncooked cranberry-kumquat relish: take a bag/box of cranberries and about two handfuls of kumquats. You want roughly a 2:1 ratio of cranberry to kumquat, by volume.)

Remove the seeds from the kumquats, then chop the kumquats and the cranberries into little pieces. Add sugar and let it sit for at least an hour for the flavors to meld.

So. Freaking. Good.
