Posting guideline for Food & Drink

As it will take some time until we have moved all matching threads to the new Food & Drinks forum, here's a summary of what belongs in the forum section:
  • Shop recommendations for ethnic food
  • International recipes
  • Help to replace ingredients that aren't widely available
  • Recipes of Swiss cuisine
  • Discussions about eating in Switzerland generally
There are also a few things that don't belong here.
  • No restaurant reviews, this is covered in Entertainment & Dining

Re: Posting guideline for Food & Drink

Hi,

Thanks for setting up this long-awaited addition to the forum.

With respect I'm afraid I have to disagree with this part. Eating in restaurants is part of the overall culinary experience of living in a country and as such belongs in a section devoted to food and drink; not mixed up with info about nights at the opera.

Why not make a few subsections of food and drink e.g.
- General
- Recipes
- Bars / Restaurants / Dining Out
- Wine, Beer, Spirits

Cheers,
Nick

Re: Posting guideline for Food & Drink

First I want to apologise that there aren't more threads in Food & Drinks already. This has simply slipped down the priority list a little.

My point is that a part of the restaurant threads in Entertainment & Dining aren't about culinary experience, but about nightlife or going out (which fits the Activities section better, too). You know the threads of this kind:

- Where is a good restaurant near cinema X/village Y?
- Theme restaurant (Blindekuh)
- Where can I find a romantic/cheap restaurant?
- Where can I eat past midnight? etc...

I fear this would dilute the Food & Drink forum. Where to draw the line? Opinions welcome.

Re: Posting guideline for Food & Drink

I'm with Nathu on this one.

For me, the difference lies in whether I'm at HOME (Food & Drink) - preparing and serving everything myself - or OUT (Entertainment & Dining).

Though I can see where sections may cross over; threads about organising a party at home, recommending caterers etc. I would put these into F&D.

If I were organising an event or party not hosted at home, I would go to the E&D section first to look for a suitable restaurant or ideas and inspiration for themes - as in Blinde Kuh, Fondue Tram, etc.

Just my 2 crumbs worth!

Re: Posting guideline for Food & Drink

Hi,

I was going to put some restaurant reviews up here at some point, and did not want my effort to be diluted.

If this is the consensus, I will stick to publishing stuff on bastronomy.com.

Have fun.

No!! Please put them in the "Entertainment and Dining" section.
That's where I'd look!

That sounds logical and along the lines that Nathu mentioned

Re: Posting guideline for Food & Drink

If you don't intend to write about foodstuffs like Jack at the same time, all your articles would stay in the same place. If you prefer a separate place for your restaurant reviews you could also use the forum's blog function.
