British style bacon / Sausages

I heard from friends at the weekend that British style sausages and bacon are available from the online Migros, Leshop. A full list of products can be found at:-

http://www.leshop.ch/leshop/Main.do?...2278_Groceries

http://www.leshop.ch/leshop/Main.do?...Sweets_Cereals

http://www.leshop.ch/leshop/Main.do?...0901_Beverages

Has anyone tried the sausages or bacon?

Never tried Migros sausages or bacon but might give it a whirl this weekend. Along with some Mexican baked beans, washed down with a glug of Speckled Hen...

Lethal.

Re: British style bacon / Sausages

I've tried the Migros bacon a few times, its not bad - I much prefer it to the wafer thin Swiss options in our local Supermarket.

I once got some from Colin the Scottish butcher, who has details somewhere on the forum, and I thought that was even better still.

Before menu-planning starts: I noticed if you click on the bacon or sausages, it says "item temporarily not available".

Also note that you have to spend at least CHF 99.00 on your order...

Re: British style bacon / Sausages

I ordered both for the first time last week, the bacon was excellent and would recommend but we did not like the sausages. I was probably excepting too much but we like a traditional Lincolnshie sausage and these certainly not that as they had a low meat content with little flavour. Co-op actually do a better Herby sausage in their more expensive range which I would say is more of a British sausage.

I will be ordering some more bacon for a lovely bacon butty Xmas morning.

Happy eating

I did not like the bacon from Migros, and the sausage does not look appealing to me. Aldi do a really good bacon it is still thin, but really tasty

Yep I second that one sutter, I tried the Aldi Swiss bacon and it was pretty good and made a great bacon and egg banjo.......yummmmm.

It's certainly better than the offerings form Migros or the Co-op...and cheaper too

Re: British style bacon / Sausages

Be very careful where any Pork Products you are buying right now originate from. Ireland exports Pork to many European countries. After a scare at the weekend, about 100,000 pigs from the national pig herd are to be culled, and all pork products have been withdrawn from sale. The dioxin PCB has been found in the food meal that the pigs eat, and in their pork. PCBs are pretty nasty.

This is not scaremongering:

http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/...571630544.html
http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/...breaking46.htm

So check the country of origin on any Pork packaging until this has been resolved.

I would be happy to buy from Colin, if he sold them on line. Since due to a hectic schedule, I dont get time to pop into the Zurich area that often. Colin get yourself a website..

Then you'll be happy to know that all the products listed in the OPs links were Swiss made from Swiss animal products..

Colin is pretty flat out with work but we're working with him to sell his bacon and sausage on-line. We posted some test consignments a couple of weeks ago, and in the winter at least it does work. I won't have it working commercially until the new year, but if you'd like some, PM me for prices and we'll send some out with a payment slip.

And, he too only uses Swiss pork

Thanks for the update Mr Grapefruit, I would really be interested in details of Colins offerings if you could ask him to post a pricelist (if the mods are ok with that) or when you see him if he could PM me one that would be great..... See you in Zug on the 20th

There could be money to be made here. Might bring back a few dozen Hams and some good sausages with me at christmas... I'll have to buy another suitcase, though.

May I ask: what will you guys eat when you are back in England?
Speck und bratwurst?

Give Switzerland a chance and enjoy a variety of lard, speck, ham, bacon other delicacies. As for sausages, they also have a waide variety that is nice to the palate and the purse.

If you go to the country side, you will find even more delicacies and people will be abel to let you taste before you buy.
