colin has made some interesting contributions
Re: Super sausages

What does it mean to make them??

Kabanos is the Polish sausage referred to I believe. I've seen that on sale in Zürich, although don't make them myself.

The op should do a search on the forum for sausage. But then they'll come back to me!!

Re: Super sausages

"Cervelat" has a very interesting definition on Wikipedia.

Now I feel bad having (slightly) insulted this national institution....
It is also known as the "worker's steak" (Arbeiter Kotlett)

With apologies to Cannut

Re: Super sausages

I'm sorry Sada and Cannut, but I really dislike (avoiding word "hate")
Berner Platte.
My MIL is a great cook, but she will insist on this for special occasions.
Lots of fatty meat, floury boiled potatoes, sauerkraut and best of all (!),
"Dörrbohnen" - dried green beans (which are actually brown, cos they've been dried)
Yuk yuk yuk!!!

I eat it to be polite -very British - but as far as meals go, this is for me the antichrist.......

Yes, I know that's red cabbage (I like that braised with apples & spices) and
chestnuts, which are nice, as long as they are not made into that dreadful dessert "vermicelles"!!!

I suppose each country has it's gastronomic highs and lows, as you say.
The British lows are perhaps too numerous to mention. My husband doesn't particularly like fish and chips - he says they are too heavy!?!
And this coming from a Swiss - can you believe it??

Ah Vermicelles, right, you just need about 1 liter of cream to actually get it all down your throat
