| | | Australia Day
Hi,
We are considering our options for our first Australia Day away from Sydney...
Any Australians here who want to put in their suggestions, for food/venue/entertainment ?
I'm interested in coordinating a social event for Aussies - if no one else has anything happening... |

I cant help with suggestions but it reminded me of the time I had to bring a national dish to work for my Swiss friends and I so wanted to make chocolate crackles wirh rice bubbles but of course I could get the copha. Maybe you could whip up some lamingtions for Australia Day -Im rather fond of them..eating them I mean not making them

You know, i don't think I've ever made lamingtons, only bought them...
My aunty makes 'jelly cakes' where you buy the sponge cake, cut it into cubes, and dip it into semi-solid raspberry jelly, then roll in shredded coconut and put into the fridge to set...YUM!
Anyone else consider 'fairy bread' an Australian delicacy ?

I think they would like coconut slice. Does anyone know where you get copha from?

I've had huge success with hedgehog (known by some Brits as refridgerater cake), with or without the coffee icing.
Also, chocolate ripple cake (you can substitute with any other biscuit that has that Chocolate Ripple biscuit consistency - gingernut bickies are particularly yummy). The recipe is here if you're interested.
Sadly, if my Australia Day is anything like last year's it will involve me wearing my Aussie flag around my waist, two ring-ins with stubby holders in the pub, and all the French people looking at us like we're weirdos. The joys of living in a small ski resort...:O)

OK,
here's the thinking at this point -
Sunday 25th, kid friendly event our home - late lunch with food and drink...if you would like an invitation, PM me and introduce yourself and your family...
Monday 26th - Beer drinking somewhere - anyone know who has Aussie beer other than the one Aussie theme venue at Stadelhofen ?
ALSO - anyone interested in going to see 'Australia' at the movies - several theatres are running it in English with German/French subtitles...
PM me if you are interested also!

Well, where are the Aussies ?
Anyone else want to do something fun to celebrate our national day (and the fact that we are not sweltering in 30-40 degrees, bushfires or down the beach getting fried ? |

That is great!!! Haven't seen old Sam for a long time.
I remember trying to do something last year on this forum, but it died quickly. It seems that the Aussies here are not all that interested.
Last year I baked lamingtons for the office, turned out ok, but not as good as back home. Maybe I can improve them this year....
Cheers.

A good option is to meet up at The Outback in Stadelhofen however order some decent beer not that blue can rubbish.
Stadelhofen works easier for many people as it gives options for travelling to peoples homes etc and you can order some eats.
