Why don' people ever listen...SIGH .....I said they now sell what the Brits call bacon, only the slices are thin, and yes, they sell real bacon (the fatty kind) too, which they label as "breakfast bacon" whereas the other is called "English bacon" or maybe "British", I don't quite remember.
You said Aldi had it, and then attached a photo of streaky bacon. YOu didn't say ALdi had one labelled as British Bacon. Be clearer.

If you'd read her post properly you'd see that she was clear.
She said in her first sentence that she's had British style bacon from Aldi Germany ( albeit sliced more thinly) and then attached if photo saying that's what she thinks if as bacon. ( the thin streaky fatty stuff)

I read the post, it wasn't clear. Bozza's following post where he interpreted the same way I did would seem to support that theory.

And there beginneth the debate!!!

I accept that (some) Americans call this "ham", but that is most definitely bacon. Ask for a bacon sandwich in the UK and that's what you're going to be presented with (obviously cooked and between 2 sheets of bread).

Ask for a ham sandwich and you'll get a schinken sandwich, something like smoked ham, roast ham, boiled ham, honey roast ham, ham on the bone etc i.e., already cooked. (damn, I sound like Bubba from Forrest Gump talking about shrimp!!)
So what does smoked ham look like?

Well if you call bacon what looks like smoked ham to me it made me wonder what it looks like what you call smoked ham. Turns out it looks like baked ham and now I wonder what does baked ham look like as you understand it. Probably looks like what I think is bacon.

Considering you posted after me and tom, and we both posted pictures, it's not "of course". Hence, use quotes.

Basically, the recurring theme here is that you don't know what smoked ham or bacon looks like.

I read the post, it wasn't clear. Bozza's following post where he interpreted the same way I did would seem to support that theory.
It's not clear that Bozza interpreted it that way at all. All he did was show a picture of what bacon looks like to Brits in response to her photo of what bacon is to her.
He may very well have read the first sentence and understood it as it was intended given that he didn't actually quote her post.

Dear Lord. She said: "Aldi Germany has what you Brits call bacon", then she posted a pic.

He said: "That's not what brits call bacon!". Considering she posted no other photo, what would he logically be responding to?

It's not rocket science, even for you.

It's not rocket science as even I could get it but apparently both you and Bozza are unable to read properly.

Re: Bacon butties in ZH

Could I just interrupt and smugly mention that my OH has recently decamped to Denmark for work purposes and I therefore have access to an endless supply of the real McCoy.

By that I obviously mean smoked back-bacon, none of your green rubbish.

AND in the Danish supermarkets I've spotted the most amazing chunks of what my Mum called boiling bacon, which seems to be what the americans here are calling baking bacon..... so that's #2 son's requested 'pink meat' sorted for Christmas.
