I do, look here, I label every picture.

Bacon

Attachment 87327

Baked ham

Attachment 87328

Smoked ham

Attachment 87329

But in the UK everything seems to be different.

Please, don't get all upset, even though I have to say Belgianmum has a point...
Photo one is possible streaky, but the best bit (the eye of the joint) is missing. Can't post a photo.... kneepad is useless at times.

Bless, surely you'd some kind of an idea what a can of worms you were opening?
Literal ones in Tom's case if he goes around eating raw bacon.

But smoked ham IS raw..... ok, let's try Italian: prosciutto cotto = baked ham, prosciutto crudo = literally means raw ham, we call it smoked.

Depends on if it's been hot or cold smoked your HAM might be raw or cooked, but it's still not bacon!
Bacon is always cold smoked and so will need cooking afterwards as it's still raw (unless you're Tom); prosciutto isn't bacon, it's simply prosciutto.... it's delicious, but.....
And what non-brits call some of the examples given doesn't really matter, does it?

And I say that as a person of the Irish persuasion, so not a Brit.

Of course prosciutto is not bacon, I did not say that, I said it is ham...

Re: Bacon butties in ZH

Well, I did quote Sobeit, and he was definitely referring to BACON, not ham in any form whatsoever; you then came back with a post referencing what you admit is Italian dried ham.....

You surely realise that a decent bacon butty is one version of the holy grail to some Brits? They get terribly worked-up about it.
My OH thinks he's simply died and gone to a specially-conceived-for-the-english heaven. (Ref:earlier posting).

Basically, the recurring theme here is that you don't know what smoked ham or bacon looks like.
Nor do the Brits.

I've been eating bacon tacos all week, albeit with slices of fried lard (from Ticino) to compensate for the overly lean bacon (from Trieste).

Um, no , as prosciutto crudo is NOT smoked (though it can be, but then is called prosciutto affumicato or speck), same with pancetta (dolce or affumicato).

Why would it need to be cooked if cured and smoked?

I cold smoke meat and fish all the time, there is no need for further cooking.

Seeing as no-one actually know what the Holy Grail is, I'm not surprised at all.

Could I just interrupt and smugly mention that my OH has recently decamped to Denmark for work purposes and I therefore have access to an endless supply of the real McCoy.

By that I obviously mean smoked back-bacon, none of your green rubbish.

Ohhh, come on, that's just mean!!

Who's been polluting your mind and telling you there's more than one way to create a bacon butty?? What's another version of a decent bacon nutty??

In the UK there is only one way!! The only debate is ketchup or HP. It's the law
