Re: probiotics

my experience is that probiotics (acidophilus, bifidus) bought from the pharmacy or health food store should be refrigerated and in an opaque packaging...

I'm sure you can get them at the pharmacy, just ask...I've been into 6 different pharmacies so far and every one had at least 1 staff member fluent enough in English to understand what I wanted...

I got a fantastic cranberry concentrate -type- product - super concentrated vitamin C...and the pharmacist even compared the powder and the liquid dosage to see which one was more cost-effective...

Bioflorin
Symbioflor
Lactoferment
all available from the Pharmacy
Your list is to the point(capsule/tablet form), Thanks.
I am sure it would have been known, had it been enquired at the pharmacy. There's always someone who speaks English at the pharmacy, in case language is a problem.

Re: probiotics

I also buy my probiotics and other supplements from iHerb. They have a really excellent choice of products, great prices and best of all free shipping to Switzerland for orders over 60$ and 4$ otherwise! I try to keep the orders just over 60$ and I've never paid taxes after more than 20 orders (66CHF is the official limit but iHerb generally indicates a lower value than what you have paid).

I generally buy Jarrow Formulas' Jarro-Dophilus EPS, which are room temperature stable and enteric coated. The best ones are Dr. Ohhira's, but the price is a little steep for me... Now Foods is ok too, but I trust Jarrow more as a brand. But that's just me.

Any of you have other experiences with these or other brands?

P.S. For a 5$ discount on your first order, you can use the following code: PEK942.

Re: probiotics/ bioflorin bottle cap advice.

Just opened a bottle of Bioflorin, and on the inside of the bottle cap, in blue letters, is written

NE PAS AVALER
NICHT EINNEHMEN
NON INGERIRE

(see attached).

Before I knock one back and make things worse than they already are, does that mean the contents of the bottle are dodgy?

I _think_ it's referring to the bit of the cap itself, which might be able to come off. Not clear from the picture, but 'do not swallow' is unlikely to be referring to the tablets, I'd have though.

I thought might have been telling me the bottle contents were dodgy. "Tamper-evident packaging" sort of thing. Maybe the corner Apotheke is still open...

Re: probiotics

I think they mean the little whatnot inside the cap which is probably something put there to stop the pills turning into one glorious gooey mess.
Or maybe it means you shouldn't swallow the bottle-cap

Jeez. Like putting "WARNING: Contents Hot!" on a pop tart? They'll be banning smoking in bars and restaurants next ...

Anyway, I just ate the bottle, minus the cap, because it doesn't have "NICHT EINNEHMEN", etc. on it.

But the best one I've found was a bar of fruit and nut chocolate which said on the wrapper 'this product may contain nuts'.

Re: probiotics

Vitamin Shoppe in the US has a very good selection of this product.

I have bought probiotics from them in the US and been very happy with them.

On another occasion, over the internet, I bought a whole host of vitamins from this store and had them shipped from the US to Switzerland with no problems and no customs tax and a very good price:

Hope this is helpful,
