I came across a wonderful sounding recipe using crab and asparagus mixed with pasta a few weeks ago which started me on my merry quest of tracking down either
fresh or frozen crab. I can't find it anywhere. Do the Swiss not eat crabs? Now I'm waking up at night dreaming of crabs cakes, crab legs and soft shell crab!!
Help!
They even sell crab meat and other seafood (frozen) at the tiny Migros in my village-like quarter.
Not to talk of grocery shops of a broader assortment. In groceries with fancy food departments such as Manor or Globus Supermarkets, they must have it fresh.
And last but not least, asian shops have mostly a large range of fish and co. for cheaper prices.
Thanks Lala, but I"m looking for real crabmeat not the crab sticks which are not real crab. I have been to to the major department stores in Zurich and though they have loads of seafood there isn't any frozen or fresh crab meat to be had. I have talked with a few people and they said sometimes Coop does get in some but it seems to be hit and miss.
I know Coop on Goldbrunnenplatz sells crab. I also know that Aggarwals (asian store) on Langstrasse (helveziaplatz) sells crabs.
I'd look for frozen crabs though, unless they're moving a frothing I wouldn't eat them.
There is a great Asian store at Wiedikon station (out the station, turn right, 1/2 minute) which has a great frozen section, I bet you'll find what you're after there. I wouldn't be surprised if you found picked crab meat there. Picking crabs is a pain in the ass.
