bacon lovers unite at the coop

I was going to call this thread bacon lovers unite, but having violated forum rules once with a vague subject line, I made it more to the point.

There's a new bacon in the Coop. It's called Bratspeck vom Nierstück, and it has a 'neu' sticker on the packaging to make it easy to locate. It's lean bacon, but still with some streaks of fat on the end for real bacon flavor. It's also bio. Bacon and eggs for breakfast for me tomorrow. Also fried mushrooms and tomatoes. A perfect way to start the day (even a Wednesday).

why not have their 'gourmet' sausages: wine and herbs, pack of four in plastic and a paper box type thing and make it a full fry up?

Too late now - it took me by surprise and I was out of the shop before I started planning tomorrow's breakfast...

You can also get this in Migros with a deli-counter it's called schinkenspeck. Ask them to cot it thick.

How thick are we talking, is it like the pathetic slivers of meatpaper that they generall sell here, or a bit more substantial?

I would probably sacrifice a small child to get my hands on some thick middle bacon, with the rind so thick that it can be chewed for a good 15 minutes.

Sigh...

there was a scottish butcher in Jemoli who would do proper back rashers and drop the gear off at the pickwick or somewhere. don't know if he's still around. not as dodgy as seling a child!

I think you will find this guy from Jelmoli on EF - his user name is colin. He still sells bacon and lots more. search for "MacVicars" and you get all the contact info.
Try
MacVicars Bacon & Sausages

Re: bacon lovers unite at the coop

Hey there is this great site I go to called naturally orkney (www.naturally-orkney.com) where I get my british bacon (Back, shoulder, smoked or non smoked) and sausages as well as other stuff. The prices are good and the delivery is one day with free shipping over Chf 50.
Check it out. John, the owner is a scotsman and really nice.
So if you are looking to chew the fat for 5 mins then this might be the site for you!
