[Lausanne area] Cooking courses?

Hello - I'm looking for information on cooking courses in the Lausanne area. I know about the classes offered through Migros but am wondering if there are other places that offer longer-term courses (i.e. more than 3 weeks). I am specifically interested in pizza making and Thai cooking. If anyone is aware of such classes, could you please post?

Thank you!

I picked up a card for the "Cooking Coach" at the Léman Expat Fair. (Link)

This school is in Vevey, but if you don't mind travelling, their courses look very interesting. I have always wanted to take one, but they seem to fill up really fast. (Link)

The Co-op sells some great Thai packages that include all of the spices and the vegetables. They're usually located in one of the refrigerators near the vegetable section. They're really tasty and easy to prepare. The directions are staightforward and include pictures showing the names of all of the spices. We had one on Monday and it was delicious and much cheaper than take-out!

Also, I came up with an amazing number of hits when I searched for "cooking classes Vevey". There's even a Canadian company that organizes cooking tours of Switzerland.

Eclairs, yummy! Where exactly do you live in Vaud?!?

If enough people are interested, perhaps we could do an EF cooking workshop at this school, maybe next fall/winter.

Here's the info on their workshops:

Groups
Whether it’s a team building exercise or a hen night, an original birthday celebration or simply a night out with a difference, we are happy to accommodate a private lesson which can be adapted to your wishes and your budget.

The minimum number of participants is 8

In order to welcome you under the best conditions, the maximum number of participants is set at 20. If you would like to organise a larger group, we also have a cavern. Please don’t hesitate to contact us, if you would like more information about this. We could also combine your culinary lessons with a wine tasting for example… (Link)

Re: [Lausanne area] Cooking courses?

Hello,

I have an Australian friend coming to visit us this Christmas and we'd love to join your cooking class if they're in English.

Many thanks,
Elise

Thanks for the info on the cooking coach and classes in Vevey. I know that a number of private chefs can do cooking classes at your home or in restaurants during off peak hours. Will try to get a few quotes for perhaps a group of 6 and get back to you. Will be in Paris for the rest of this week so hope to have all the details by next week.

I would be up for it. Looking at improving technique, such as knife skills, sauces, etc.

Re: [Lausanne area] Cooking courses?

Hi everyone,

I can recommend a woman who teaches how to cook Indian food. Her name is Shivani and she comes to your house to teach an assortment of dishes. I invited her to give my husband a cooking lesson on his birthday. It lasted 3 hours and she taught him how to make garlic chicken, chana masala, dal, gobhi Manchurean, navratan korma, mango lassi, and naan. She brings the spices. The lessons are 35fr per hour and it's well worth it, in my opinion. We had enough food for two meals for 4 people and my husband will definitely make them again. I'd be happy to provide her email address by PM to those who are interested.

Re: [Lausanne area] Cooking courses?

Hello Everyone,

Glad to see fellow food lovers share the delights of cooking, there is also a more intensive course upon researching which provides a range of graduating courses. Found here on Lake Geneva, past Montreaux, http://www.culinaryarts.ch/

They offer more dearer course options but for the more serious chef inside there is a degree, BA, or those looking to a more refined cooking a certificate course lasting 3 terms around 33weeks.

I have yet to enrol but very enticing considering they include also a French language course as well with the duration of the course.

Let me know if anyone has or is signing up.
cheers
SM

The local thai shop next to the train station of Renens offers cooking courses too, if I am not mistaken. I think there is a note inside of the shop. The owner speaks english too, if necessary. Fleurs d'Asie, avenue d'Epenex 1c, Chavannes-près-Renens. tel: 021 691 06 38
