Lemonade Recipe or better, buy frozen??

Ok, it's summer and what better thing to quench a thirst but a nice glass of lemonade.

In the good old days of living in Canada I bought 3 frozen cans for 99 cents which would make 6 Liters.
In Switzerland I can't find any such thing!!

I did have a recipe last year which I made, but it took something like 8 lemons and cooking and I dunno what to end up with a jug full.

So: Has anyone seen frozen one to be bought? (I like the pink one too!)
Does someone have a recipe? Is it possible to somehow make ones own concentrate and freeze it so that I would have it conveniently available?

I do buy lemon syrup from Migros, but it's just not the same.

Perhaps some haha Lemony person on here has some ideas ...

Rampion has made some interesting contributions
Re: Lemonade Recipe or better, buy frozen??

Hello Destiny,
this is our family recipe, it's easy, no cooking involved and tastes brilliant. As well as being great for the summer, it's perfect in winter, hot, as a vit c boost and general well-being drink. Plus you can make it all year round.

Lemonade;

To the grated rind ( the rind is where the real lemon flavour comes from) and juice of 2 ( I recommend organic) lemons, add 625 grams sugar, 1 dessertspoon tartaric acid, 600 millilitres boiling water. Stir well, cover with a muslin cloth ( A teatowell will do just as good.), leave overnight. Next day, strain ( I don't strain all of the rind away, but that's up to each individual) and bottle. Dilution guide 1-5.

Enjoy your lemony summer

P.S, you can of course use citric acid, I just don't know the proportion for this recipe. Since I have been living here, I use Zitrone säure from the Apotheke/Chemist, which seems closest to tartaric acid, as I knew it.

Re: Lemonade Recipe or better, buy frozen??

Rampions sounds really nice, but a bit involved. I go a bit simpler in my approach.

1 part lemon juice
1 part simple syrup
2 parts water

(simple syrup--although up for debate what the ratio is, I just do 1:1 sugar to water, heated until dissolved then left to cool. In the summer it's a must because I use it in all my cold drinks.)

If you really want to jazz up the lemonade, throw in a few peppermint leaves, ice and mix in a blender. Wonderfully refreshing on the patio while bbq'ing.

Sometimes I do it without any sugar. I add a bit of salt and pepper. I know it sounds strange, but I find it much more refreshing and of course healthier. Also you can substitute lemons for limes.

Nice !

Re: Lemonade Recipe or better, buy frozen??

Pink Lemonade

3 lemons, squashed for the juice
1 pink-fleshed grapefruit, squashed for its juice
4 tablespoons lime juice (you can use the ones that come in a green plastic lime shape)
1 cup sugar
1 cup water

Boil the sugar and water. Add the other liquids, stir and leave to cool. (Freezable. Semi-defrost in microwave before mixing in a jug.)
Add water and ice according to taste.

Here's a link to my favourite summery lemon drink:

Lemon barley water:

Really refreshing and tastes fab. Looks great served in big glass jugs with lots of ice and some mint leaves.

Re: Lemonade Recipe or better, buy frozen??

If you are in a hurry, this one is perfect (only takes 2 minutes)

For one pitcher use -

Juice of 8 lemons and 4 limes
2 dl sugar
5 dl cold water

Stir well, add ice cubes and 4-5 slices of an organic lemon.

Me Myself and I- I do the same, and usually use Bubble water. In India this available as a 'Fresh Lime Soda'. If I'm in the mood for a cocktail- I also throw in some Gin or Vodka.

Also- I just tried this. Watermelon Lemonade. Whhhhhooooaaaar. http://smittenkitchen.com/2009/07/wa...ade/#more-3715 - I omitted the simple syrup since the watermelon was really sweet. I also added some fresh chunked pineapple, and springs of mint shredded fine. Its yummeh.

One thing I've noticed making beverages with bottled water is that unless you are accustomed to the taste of mineral water, you have to be careful which brand of water you use, else the taste is "altered."

I brought root beer "extract" (flavoring) with which I could make syrup for making root beer but it tastes peculiar unless I use Henniez brand bubble water.

Maybe there are other brands without the mineral taste but that was the first (only so far) that I found that tasted "natural."

Re: Lemonade Recipe or better, buy frozen??

yea! i love lemonade- i actually drink water with lemon constantly because i just can't really bare plain water.

my lemonade is tasty and simple- and you can take or leave any part of it to taste-

4 lemons i squeeze 'em and leave the rinds in- looks nice and adds flavor.
sugar/honey/agave nector to taste- i sometimes don't put any.
strawberries- 7-8 depending on size
mint leaves
ice

it's really refreshing and lends itself well to cocktails as well!

enjoy!

Re: Lemonade Recipe or better, buy frozen??

Try this:
Old fashioned lemonade
75g (1½lb) Sugar
1.2lt (2 pints) Water
4 Lemons
2 tsp Citric Acid
2 tsp Tartaric Acid

Finely peel the lemons, removing only the outer waxy layer and squeeze the juice.
Place the water into a saucepan with the lemon rind and boil for 2 - 3 minutes.
Place the sugar, lemon juice, citric acid and tartaric acid into a bowl.
Strain the boiling water over the juice mixture.
Stir in the sugar to dissolve.
Pour the liquid into clean, dry bottles sealing securely.
Will keep for up to 6 weeks if stored in a cool dark place.
Can be diluted before serving.

It wont last 6 weeks though
