| | | Decent beer stores anywhere?
OK so I am a self-confessed beer-nerd and love the more offbeat beers. Switz seems VERY underserved by good beer stores (and good beer generally!).
So, does anyone know of any beer stores in Switz which have a decent selection of brews from all over the world, i.e. a bit more than just the bog-standard Feldschlössli or "exotic" can of Eichhof?
To kick off, I would recommend the following 2 in Basel: Beers of the World - Basel SBB
Good selection of beers, both Swiss and international. Too bad they don't get experiment more with guest beers in or mix their range up a little (I am beginning to run out of new ones to try!). Friendly staff too, btw. Paul Ulrich - Just off Marktplatz
Actually more of an upmarket liquor store, but upstairs they do have a small but intersting range of beers. Most are sold also at Beers of the World, but they get props for selling a bit more than just the usual mediocre suspects.

It could be worth a trip upto the Geant Superstore in Saint Louis..
I'm no beer buff but seem to be sticking more 'British' items .....even Lucozade woohoo......but does have an extensive Beer and Wine Section..
There are also a couple of good Beer/Wine/Cigar shops in Lorrach....12 min over the German border by Regional Train (just over 5 Euro return).
Good luck....I would suggest extensive market research !!
Regards

One of the best of the region indeed. For those not knowing it, it is on the Landesmuseum side at the entrance to the S7/S5, if somebody enters from the Bahnhofstrasse, one stairway down and then simply straight ahead, open from 10am to 10pm daily. There is also quite a nice choice in that shop at the airport to the right side of the Migros. Many shops have good beers but a limited choice.

No shop here has a collection of several brands of local beers, as far as I know. Drinks of the World is good for a first exploration of some of the local products but I buy my beers from the factory. Have a look at this thread, you likely don't live far from one! I would recomend the "Whiskybaron" in Thun, well worth a visit it has over 1000 sorts of whisky, hundreds of other spirits and wines and also at least 100 beer sorts.
Nice place for a day out too |

B) "One of the guys" speaks English ? I suppose that not only he does so, but that he is the "speaker" . Reminds me of an experience in the last military service, when we made an excursion the one of the glaciers in Graubünden and our captain gave information and instruction and then asked us to take care of foreigners talking languages we had in our command. I took care of an English couple, another one of a French family, two others of a group of Spaniards, one helped a Portuguese family. On the walk back I heard a German woman saying to her husband ".... these Swiss soldiers speak all languages...." The point that each of us only used one language at one time was missed by the good lady | | This user groans at Wollishofener for this post: | | |
