Indian, of course.

But I also really love all the sandwich places like Pret and EAT that you can't find here. Mmm... turkey with cranberry sauce and some veggie chips (crisps) sounds great for lunch!

Re: Off to London for a Holiday ! What are you dying to eat?!

Don't forget the best bagels to be found on the top of Brick Lane, at Beigel Bake. Its open 24h and a bagel is only 25p, always warm right out of the oven. You can have it plain or with filling such as salt beef or smoked salmon, etc. Mmmmmmmm

I'll be in London next week and will definately be stopping by.

Re: Off to London for a Holiday ! What are you dying to eat?!

A freshly baked bagel sounds like a great snack. Thanks for the tip.

I already know what I'm eating tonight. There's this fantastic Lebanese place close to my sister's house and their food is outstanding, don't remember the name.

Tomorrow morning, I'd love to have a proper fry up in a café. For lunch I want to have a really nice piece of meat in a country pub and for tomorrow's dinner: Indian.

Sunday & Monday we're still open to suggestions as long as I manage to get a decent Fish & Chips. We'll be based around Wimbledon. As long as my other half gets to do her shopping, the rest of our trip will be devoted to my eating .

I'm off to London on Monday, so far the biggest thing I miss in Basel is a proper Burger, cant wait to go to my all time fav. burger joint - The Burger Bear in Rivington Street, What I wouldn't give to have one right now

If you are a fan of street burgers I highly suggest Bleecker St. Burger van, they have a facebook page with their route and schedule, if you going to be around the Wimbeldon area you could always try Little Social, a little bit pricy at 18 quid with chips but UMMM

Re: Off to London for a Holiday ! What are you dying to eat?!

A good Indian of course- but I would head to Leicester, and not London but having lived in Leicester for soooo long, I am a bit biased
My first ever curry was at an Indian restaurant at the back of Tottenham Court Road, near University College/UCH- the Agra (10 and 6 for chicken tikka and a beer ) I wonder if it is still there (Easter 1970)

Oh and a proper aged rib of beef from our local butcher's, in East Leics.
And of course cream tea at Mrs Bridge's and another day, a steak and stilton sandwich there too- thanks Christian the Chef (an old student of mine ) he is a better chef than German or French student...

Cheers Alixman, Wimbledon is exactly where I'm going to be. Thanks for the recommendation!

Last time I tried out the GBK in Wimbledon. It was good but I didn't find it great.

Have a great trip.

Cheers Odile,

Leicester or Birmingham would definitely be curry heaven but Tooting also has it's fair share of Indian/Pakistani places.

Thanks for the recommendations.

If you visit England (not only London) hire a car and drive out. 30 minutes up the motorway you will be in the Oxfordshire countryside ( there are lots of other beautiful counties closeby too ) You will be spoiled for choice at the wonderful food on offer at the Country pubs. crispy meltingly tender belly pork, roast lamb, cooked for hours till it falls off the bone, rib of beef with all the trimmings etc.....
I get SOOOOOOO angry when our English food gets rubbished in the press, most of these journalists have only ever eaten in London, we have some of the BEST cuisine, you need to know where to go.
if you want to increase your chances of eating great food in the UK then leaving London would be your first mistake!

I used to love the Sree Krishna, 192-194 Tooting High Street for dosas (ooh that's what I really miss here, oh for a south Indian in Geneva), but it's been a while so I can't vouch for it these days.

it's not particularly near Wimbledon but the best Fish and Chips i've had in London is Kerbisher and Malt in West Kensington

it's a cool place with a bit more of an effort spent on it than the usual chippy so you won't feel hard done by if you do decide to make the trip.

let me know if you go - i'd be interested to see how you like it!

I would head to Diwana Bhel Poori House on Drummond Street, but not before gorging on Waitrose or M&S (don't care who served by) taramasalata with hot, crispy pitta bread.
