Pork pies... Well pies in general to be honest!
You'll have to go to Dickinson and Morris Pork pies in Melton Mowbray for the best hand made ones and whilst you are at it, buy a great stilton for Christmas and some proper Red Leicester (don't forget the port).. aghhh

Re: Off to London for a Holiday ! What are you dying to eat?!

Hi All

Off to London in 4 weeks. Any recommendations or insight into 'Street Food' in the Capital. I've heard so much about it since last there (4 years back). I'd like to sample new things if possible, rather than the usual (but fantastic) Chinieesies or Sunday Roasties, Pub Gruberies etc.

Ta very in advance all EFers, and

'ave a very good day y'all

The food at Whitecross Street Market is pretty good, I've been there plenty for lunchtime when working in London.

Borough Market is generally only Saturday mornings, the market stalls are not there on a Sunday.

Hi All

Off to London in 4 weeks. GREG
not sure of your dates but if 18/19 July,

http://www.lambeth.gov.uk/events/lam...ntry-show-2015

nearest tube is Brixton, on Victoria line, then a short bus ride, check TFL.gov.uk for buses from Brixton or on London British Rail, Herne Hill, is 1 minute walk. Entrance is free & someting of interest to all age groups, but Sunday pm can get extremely busy

could be wrong side to where you will be staying. There may be other festivals going on in a Park near where you will be. There are a number on over the summer

Re: Off to London for a Holiday ! What are you dying to eat?!

Not having any more relatives in London I rely upon finding hotels with English breakfasts as part of the London pleasure. There are however very few (at a reasonable price) where the breakfast is freshly cooked.
But, there are two meals I always have when I'm there: I always go to the New Tate and whilst there have lunch in the restaurant and always fish and chips - beautifully done. And the National (Portrait) Gallery has a very, very good and reasonably priced restaurant.
Good traditional meals are hard to find as are comfortable pubs.

I visited Top 1 Forever restaurant and I can say that this restaurant is an ideal place to enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner because this place exudes a cozy atmosphere and has delicious food. I can courageously say that this is the best place to eat in London. :msnn erd:

Back when I was in London for a few weeks, if I wanted good food I'd hop on the hovercraft over to France!

Well things were really dire then but a lot has changed.
To be honest, France seems to be losing it's way with cooking in some respects but the U.K. is getting better all the time.

Other than the occasional lunch in France, I survived on breakfast and beer.

The only place you can still go by hovercraft these days is the Isle of Wight. I'm not sure about the culinary qualities you'll find there.

Some places in the UK have got better, with this I agree. And on the whole there is more variety and choice. With this I also agree. But there is also a lot of food snobbism with people confusing hype and presentation for actual quality.
