Where does everyone do their grocery shopping? At Migros or are there lots of local "farmer's markets" around to get fresh local produce from? Are these everywhere and/or convenient? Is it cheaper or more expensive? Sorry, I just saw the thread below similar to this one, but I'm located near Zurich...any difference?

There is a weekly market in the Hauptbahnhof on Wednesdays, and there are a couple of vendors there with fruits and veg. I believe there are also weekly markets at Helvetiaplatz and Burkliplatz. Not sure of the day/time for Helvetiaplatz but I think the Burkliplatz one is on Friday mornings (before noon).

Where near Zurich are you located?

There is a weekly market in Adliswil - I think on Thursdays but I would have to check to be sure. There is also a small veggie stand once a week in Thalwil.

We have a farm near us where you can purchase fresh produce from a stand they have (honor system payment) and on Fridays there is fresh organic bread!


Most of my shopping I do at Mirgros, COOP and Mullers Reformhaus.

Interesting, thanks everyone. We'll be near Baden, which I guess isn't exactly Zurich. I'm not sure where we'll want to move to after the temporary housing located in Baden...maybe somewhere in between Basel and Baden if I get a job.

If you're going to be near Basel, then your options are even more open. You can shop in France and Germany, both of which offer a much greater selection. Germany is also cheaper and you can get your tax back. In St. Louis, France on Saturday mornings there is a huge and nice farmer's market...

Like evilshell posted, the market in St. Louis is worth a visit. Also, there is a nice produce market at Freiburg in Breisgau.
