cheap beer-large quantities-HELP!

Hi. I've been a student here in Basel, Switzerland for over two years now and this year i have the dubious honour of being one of my school's student representatives.

since the previous groups of reps were lame(trust me on that), we have decided to throw a school party at the end of first week (sept.18 or 19).

we have a location.

but

we need beer! lots and lots of BEER!

and we are students so it cant cost us an arm and a leg.

yes i know all the stores here in basel but we need kegs or cans and bottles in quantity. doesnt have to be anything fantastic. feldschlosschen ( AKA feldsh**) is perfectly ok. we expect about 100+ people showing and the last people gone at 5am + ........so just to reiterate a point i already made!

LOTS OF BEER! CHEAP!

please please please. any help at all would be great. as we are students we dont have tons of cash, most lack cars/drivers licenses, and smuggling in this kind of quantity is stupid....so

english forum do your worst!

p.s. any tips on wine and hard stuff in quantity would also be great

pps anyone have the ability to buy from wholesalers?

I can't attest to their service, but it seems delivery from a 'Getränkelieferung' company is your best bet

Re: cheap beer-large quantities-HELP!

Anker beer appears to be on sale in Coop right now, 12 francs for 24 cans.

Coop's home delivery service is free until 7th September.

And there are some success stories about sourcing ice on the forum....which will answer your next question.

Re: cheap beer-large quantities-HELP!

I think Coop are doing their Anker promotion again this week (24 cans for 12 CHF) which is pretty hard to beat.

Re: cheap beer-large quantities-HELP!

It may seem too simple, but I would have someone Swiss German speaking call Feldschlosschen directly and ask them if they have a service that would be able to help.

They may be able to provide you with kegs directly and the beer taps/tables used for large private functions. They should have plastic glasses as well (good idea vs. glass bottles with a large group). They might have some big banners as well that you could put up as advertising for them (and might help with the negotiations/pricing). You might find that this is the easiest and least expensive option.

Do this before running around to all of the retail outlets.

Re: cheap beer-large quantities-HELP!

I think there is no way you can beat the Aldi beer price. Green, half liter PET bottles. I know, sacrilege, plastic bottles for beer... but not having 1 million glass bottles or cans all over the place is an advantage not to be underestimated. Go for Aldi cans otherwise. The beer isnt' worse than Feldschlösschen or any other watery lager.
