Cafes in Zurich Seefeld?

My partner will be in Zurich week after next (26th through the 29th) for business.

He'll be staying at the Hotel Seefeld and I'm wondering if there are any cute, wonderful, charming little cafes around there he can enjoy when he's not in meetings? A cup of coffee, maybe a quick bite to eat, all with some nice ambiance?

Any thoughts?

Re: cafes in Seefeld?

Hi!

"Joey's", at the Kreuzstrasse tram stop, just a couple of yards from the hotel.

"Café Mühlebach", at the Mühlebachstrasse-Kreuzstrasse junction.

And there's Hotel Seefeld's restaurant, of course. As far as I know, they have sort of a lounge, too.

Hope I could help a little bit!

Re: cafes in Seefeld?

Although Hotel Seefeld is nice enough, it's still a hotel bar / cafe / restaurant and always has that transient atmosphere. Try the Schiller bar at the 'Opernhaus' tramstop, a five minute walk and right by Stadelhofen / Bellevue transport hubs.( Not 'Bellevue' in the NYC sense, though.) It's a little bit fancy pants but the place is probably more suited to people watching and getting away from 'home'. Seefeld itself doesn't have much that is charming re. cafes, but your husband will find his feet soon enough; the city has lots of nice cafes.

There are a few decent restaurants right next door, though. He'll find them

Re: cafes in Seefeld?

Seefeld has become the town's yuppie centre. It used to be a charming town in town, but these days it's just a completely overrated and overpaid area where young investment bankers and lawyers rule. Aaargh!

If you count Bellevue as part of Seefeld, give café felix a try.

I agree. The problem is it's a self-fulfilling prophecy: people ask what area is nice, a name is mentioned, the rents go up, people assume the market's right, companies pay silly money for short term leases, local people get pushed out... and on and on. Eventually you're left with a place with no cafe culture, some fancy restaurants and few traditional stores run by Mom and Pop. There are, however, plenty of shops selling jewellery for dogs and children's boutique shoe shops. Just what we need.

Oh, and I'm yet to see a beat up old car. They're all new, German and oversized. It's all a bit anodyne but the area still carries a nice atmosphere. Anyway, this is getting rather Off Topic. To the OP: your Hubby will be fine

I agree with that! It's even been populated by hookers at night time (Dufourstr.). Well, nothing to fear about OP's hubby nowadays

Let's be fair, there are no street walkers along Dufourstrasse, but the area used to be known as Saufeld. Now the hookers have expensive studios, also pushing up the rents

If the weather is good (sunny but chilly) there is the restaurant at the Hafen Riesbach down at the lake (on a level with the Feldeggstrasse tramstop). Gets your friend out of the building site for a few minutes and the view of the lake is stunning.

Re: Cafes in Zurich Seefeld?

Freytag on Seefeldstrasse (I think the closest tram might be Hoschgasse) is excellent! Food, cakes, coffee and service, all top-notch.

Actually, Toto's is probably your best Urbane bet in the neighbourhood. Better looking chicks - like Sandgrounder - than Freytag Oops, you probably don't want your husband going to such places. Freytag it is, then!

It's true, I frequently lower the aesthetics of Freytag
