Homemade strawberry mochi ice cream

Hi I-Lin, do you mind sharing how to make home made mochi?

Haven't found any at the store here, maybe that is yet another thing I can learn to make myself here.

Sure, here's the link to the recipe I found: http://japaneseicecream.blogspot.com...am-recipe.html

My first attempt was a disaster, because I didn't have any cornstarch and tried substituting with flour. I had to keep adding flour to keep it from sticking but eventually stopped, as you shouldn't eat raw flour. So I finally grabbed little bits and rolled it in coconut, which kind of salvaged the batch.

On my 2nd attempt, I halved the amount of sugar in the recipe (because I found it too sweet the first time). Added some red coloring to the water to make it pink, and used strawberry ice cream. Couldn't really form the ice cream balls properly, so that's why the end result is a little bit deformed. I wish I had a little ice cream scoop or melon baller.

My mother suggested rolling the ice cream into a log wrapped in plastic wrap and freezing it, and then cutting out circles. Will try that next time.

Good luck!

Ok, my first ever attempt at working with fondant (thank you Crumbs http://www.back-art.ch/new/ ). This was for my daughters third birthday.
I used lumpy apricot jam (I forgot to buy the smooth ) on the cake prior to placing the fondant over it (hence the bubbly texture). I'm just happy that it was obvious it was Hello Kitty and not some Picasso looking thing

Brilliant. I have a big Hello Kitty fan here too

Re. the jam: Heat it in a saucepan and then run it through a sieve before brushing it over the cake.

Probably because I misspelled the word "acquaintance"

Cool, my first groan!

Hello Natascia,

Here goes Recipe for South indian Dosa:

Dosa is one of the famous south Indian dish made as daily breakfast rich in carbohydrates. It is made out of Parboiled rice and Urad Dhal which .

Ingredients:

1 1/2 cups parboiled rice
1/2 cup urad dal (Available in Indian grocerry shop)
salt to taste
Oil.

Method:
  • Separately soak rice and urad dal at least 6 hour or overnight in water (Overnight will give better results).
  • Grind it to a smooth paste adding little water at a time.
  • Add salt to taste to the batter.
  • Leave it in room temperature overnight.(I usually pre heat the oven at 100 degree for 10 mins and switch it off and then place the batter for it to ferment overnight)
  • Heat pan or griddle (flat based one meant for pancakes) with little oil.
  • Spread the mix on pan in circular motion to make thin pancake.
  • Flip it over when one side is cooked.
  • Cook on both the sides, if desired.
.

If you find this process more complicated you are welcome to my place i am happy to demonstrate how to make it

Happy cooking.
