Where can I find gluten-free sausages in Basel?

Does anyone knows where I can get gluten-free sausages in Basel.

Re: Hello, I am soniasmith

Hi Sonia, thanks for the intro, it's nice to know a little more about you.

Try Globus in Marktplatz or Manor in Claraplatz for the GF sausages. Another option is any "Reformhaus" -- these are health food shops and usually carry a limited gluten-free range, but refrigerated items may be pushing it.

Marktkauf supermarket in the Rheincenter in Weil-am-Rhein (just metres across the border in Germany) has a very good range of gluten-free items and probably has your sausages.

Re: Where can I find gluten-free sausages in Basel?

You might be pleasantly surprised that most sausages/processed meats here in Switzerland appear to be gluten free.

Our son is coeliac, and we've chanced it with the local stuff like wienerli (hot dogs) and cervelat - and he doesn't seem to have had a reaction.

We do read labels avidly and we haven't yet found a processed sausage with added wheat. The only thing I'd say to watch out for is the 'marinaded' meats in the pre-packs, and obviously crumbed stuff is off the menu.

Hey, if you are interested, I do a shopping tour in Zurich - on a saturday morning 10am-12noon. Next one will be in late January. I'm happy to add gluten-free advice for the tour...
