Have been living in Basel for almost 3 months now and have started to frequent the same locations, some ex pat hang outs, some more typically Swiss. I am interested to see what pubs people frequent and why? If you have a favorite pub and would like to share please post here!

I liked the Pickwicks. The night we went in had decent music and good crack. Think it was also near a McDonalds which made good soakage.

Not really a pub but my favourite drinking hole since I moved here 7 years ago has always been Eo Ipso. Will probably be also the part of Basel I miss the most when I move on Saturday

As a non-native English drinker, I don't know the difference between a bar and a pub. My favorite bar still remains Eo Ipso! Large hall, good music, good cocktails and a decent variety of faces.

Crack means something else in british english doesn't it? Otherwise I should get down to PW's more often

Have tried but can't go out in Basel yet, next attempt after the smoking ban. Until then I spend my evenings in lovely small restaurants in Hegenheim and Hesingue

Haha, yeah its Irish slang mostly. good crack usually means good fun. I heard it all the time back home at the irish pubs.

Bundesbaehnli in Gundeli near Eo-Ipso. Anywhere they nod and say "Grosses?" to me when I walk in will always be a favourite.

(of course I'm assuming they're talking about the size of beer but I guess it could be something else?)

My vote goes to Eoipso as well . Good ambience, not too loud music & relatively smoke free.

Acqua is also quite nice.

I like McGuinness's Irish Pub.

The ceilings are high and it's a large space so it never gets particularly smoky.

Pat - where is Unser Bier Braustube, that's 1 I dont know and should probably try

I think it's Noohn -- the Sushi Bar.

Noon is just off from Bankverein or Elisabethanstrasse.

Pickwicks I like best. McGuinesses' is ok if I just want a quiet early evening drink. Fisherstube has good beer, and the staff are always friendly.
