Re: Looking for Miso or a Japanese Food Store in Bern?

Just wanted to add some new information concerning miso soup from Migros, apparently they've stopped selling the brand I previously mentioned in this thread and now carry a new brand of Japanese food products called Saitaku (see attachment).
So I bought a box of their miso soup which is a 2 packet deal, 1 miso paste and the other freeze dried tofu cubes, spring onions and seaweed. The box has enough packets for 4 portions which when mixed with only 160ml of water create very small portions..! As soon as I saw the freeze dried extras I knew where this was headed, after a couple of spoonfuls it went down the drain. It had to be the worse miso soup I ever tasted..!! It's a shame Migros stopped carrying the Yutaka brand.

Re: Looking for Miso or a Japanese Food Store in Bern?

Hello,

My name is Ailec, I am new to Bern, move here from San Francisco, CA. I just want to thank every body for the information about where to find Miso soup, it means a lot to me, since I have cronic digestion problems.

Happy New Year and Thank you again.

If you're downtown, Globus has various kinds of miso paste and miso soup mixes in their food section (basement , -1 floor). There is also an Asian section in the loeb lebensmittel near the bahnhof - though I don't know if it's still being renovated. There are also ethnic stores scattered around Bern- one that sold Japanese stuff, perhaps in the Brietenrain or Lorraine areas, but I don't remember exactly. You can also check the coop or migros, but I think what you'll find in the Globus or loeb might be better, if a bit more expensive.

If you are in Lausanne or Geneva, stock up on J groceries at http://www.uchitomi.ch/

Bern isn't great for Japanese stuff, but Egli in the basement of the train station had miso paste. I found edamame at TNT in Lebefeld off of Könizstrasse.
