| | | Swiss Tap Water
Am I just overly biased in favour of all things Swiss these days...or is Swiss tap water really what they call nectar in heaven?
I just find myself drinking gallons of the stuff lately...saving a fortune on beer and Rivella |

It's not brilliant in Geneva, it comes from the lake, I rarely drink any when I'm visiting except gulping big glasses for hangover prevention or diluted with Pastis... |

It's great and comes out of the tap pre-chilled! Well, compared Australian tap water and some beer I've had served here |

Some of us on the left bank get it from the Arve aquifer.

One criticism i would make of Swiss Tap Water....you can't make a decent cup of tea with it. Then again, that's my experience everywhere outside the UK and Ireland (and all hotels in the UK ).
But perhaps I should force myself to be drinking tea out here rather than the water having come across this old article..... http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/5281046.stm Tea 'healthier' drink than water The researchers recommend people consume three to four cups a day Drinking three or more cups of tea a day is as good for you as drinking plenty of water and may even have extra health benefits, say researchers. The work in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition dispels the common belief that tea dehydrates. Tea not only rehydrates as well as water does, but it can also protect against heart disease and some cancers, UK nutritionists found. |

Just get a simple water filter like Brita Maxtra with a jug, it filters out the calcium carbonate that is responsible for making disastrous cups of tea...One filter lasts me about 5 weeks in an area with very hard water; they cost a few francs each if you buy them on special and the jug is 30-40chf.
And not all kantons put fluoride in the water.

I drink tap water all day long at work but I do get some funny looks from my swiss colleagues who can't understand why I drink tap water when bottled water is provided by the company one reason I drink tap water is that its lovely and cold unlike the bottled water which is just stored in crates in the kitchen.
Have to admit that if I'm at home or anywhere near a tap then I will take tap water over bottled anyday but maybe thats because I'm a cheapskate and think that bottled water is such a rip off!!

I don't know either what's up with these water dispensers that keep popping up in Swiss offices for the last few years? Instead of the everywhere available, cool tap water, now you have room temperatured water that needs to get cooled down with electricity, dudes schlepping the big bottles through office buildings and in the end, it even costs more?
Doing this is like selling fridges at the north pole to me. | Quote: | | | | | Hey Nathu, I reckon they must put something in it...the way those Swiss girls were behaving in the Cana last week! | | | | | Maybe some liquid other than water was the cause for their behavior? |

I drink tap water, but I have to wonder about how good it is for me... showering with it makes my hair completely weird and it changes the colour, no matter what shampoo I use. And my skin gets very red and irritated.
Still, I've hard that tap water is still better for you than bottled water.
