Looking to take a friend out to dinner tonight, but concerned about possible crowds in Basel restaurants due to the BaselWorld event. Also generally convinced that "Swiss restaurant" and "excellent service" or "value for money" rarely go hand-in-hand, so I'm considering a cross-border solution.

Can anyone recommend some good places within a 15-20 minute drive of Basel, either on the French side or the German side of the border?

We've had good meals at La Diligence, in St-Louis, France - make sure to book a table, as it is usually busy when we go (on weekends though - it may be different during the week).
We've been told that Fuji Sushi (on rue de Huningue), also in St-Louis, is nice too.

My favourite is Boeuf Rouge, Hegenheim. Not very fancy, more of a rustic traditional interior, excellent French cooking (and believe me, I'm very picky about my food). I can also recommend Cheval Blanc in Hesingue.

Will agree with the recommendation for La Diligence. Every time we have eaten there it has been lovely.
