For the foodies (or alcoholics) out there...

Anyone knows where (if) I can find some wild hops shoots in or around Zurich? I'm after about 1 kilo

I'm after them for salads, risottos et al... kind-of-similar to asparagus, but much nicer.

I remember when I was a wee boy going to the woods with Mum and pick them off the hop vines, haven't seen them since and I'm planning a bit of a do.

Looked everywhere I can think of but no luck...

Get in touch with Steve at the Rappi Bier Factory. I think he knows someone who grows hops in the area, he may be able to help.

Walter...sometimes you find exactly what you are looking for at the market in Oerlikon or Helvetiaplatz from a vendor called Rossetti. I have found them in year's past, but so far this year I have not seen them. They are called Hopfen in German, although the vendor sometimes calls them 'wildspargel'...I think this is more for the Swiss who may find wild asparagus more appealing than hops.

thanks jack... I think I scoured all the markets around and I haven't seen them.. under any name... and given that this is pretty much their season I wondered if I was missing something bleeding obvious, hence the thread.... I'll keep an eye out for Rossetti.

By the way, haven't seen you here for a while, how are you doing?

Just returned from the market today...checked with Rosetti about the hops...Too cold during the last couple of weeks...they will be available again next week...probably Friday at Helvetiaplatz and Saturday in Oerlikon...

Hops are now available at the market...As stated before, look for the vendor Rosetti at Helvetiaplatz (Tue & Fri - Thursday this week only) or Oerlikon (Wed & Sat)...
