It is a serious problem with fox tapeworms because there is no cure and your odds to survive is only 10%.
There are also nasty fish tape worms, a mate got it because from eating sushi.
Imagine those worms eat your brain and other parts of your body, I have seen pictures were a worm was living inside the eye, blocking his hosts view.

It's a serious enough problem for there to be research on it.

It's a negligible risk if you wash any food you forage from ground level though.

I got some new info from my brother.

The parasite in in faeces, not urine. So, as long as your flora doesn't look like it's dirty it should be fine.

If worried, wash leaves and berries and brush mushrooms (which you'll be cooking anyway, right?)

This "Fuchsbandwurm" is indeed a deadly parasite and not the same as the intestinal tapeworm as mentioned before.
It is more akin to a liver fluke.
Washing is the only way to get rid of the eggs in the faeces (on leaves) - cooking apparently does not harm them!??!

Why do you think this?

Just double-checked this as it did sound unlikely (heard it from a friend) and all is ok - the eggs are destroyed by temperatures of over 60 degrees.
