| | | Is this the best gin in the world?
well, it is the one I like most at the moment Gabriel Boudier Saffron Gin
Bought it a while ago for some experimental cooking, but found out it actually makes a heavenly G&T (usual quantities, no ice, swap the lime/lemon for a slice of orange).
of course, you have to like saffron...

I've seen it in duty free but not managed to pick it up...
have you tried Hendricks ?
this time skip the lime / lemon and throw in a slice of cucumber
and throw the Pimm's into the skip.

tried hendricks, I think the flavour is too complex and would be wasted in a G&T... makes great Martini though...

for lack of anything more intelligent to say... yes it does have a heavy taste.

hendricks is a great gin, and unsually has a great fragrance. The safron gin is a tad harsh for me.

With Gin you need to ask yourself.
Is it made in London or England...if yes drink, if no ignore it.
Hendricks is Scottish so may qualify in some sort of default clause but I prefer Gordons or Beefeater.
Bombay Sapphire is great but I feel a little dirty drinking it.

After much experimenting with Gin, primarily for use in G&T, I always fall back on my two staple favourites: An uncomplicated cucumber and lime taste, with a subtle hint of anise. While I do enjoy BomSaph, I sometimes find it a little too smooth to enjoy. I tend to need that little kick that only Tanqueray can provide me with my G&T, just a splash of Vermouth, a dash of lime, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Give it a go, you won't be disappointed.

It was quite good, creamy tones of Citrus and Junipe. Unfortunately at that point in time I was unable to afford shelling out £35 for a bottle.
I see your Sacred Gin and raise you a bottle of Broker's Gin, from a distillery near Birmingham though. Fortunately Birmingham does not produce liquor akin to their football | | This user would like to thank Aquanexus for this useful post: | |

You speak the truth! I LOVE Hendricks. I tried the other, but I wasn't blown away by it. Hendricks has a hint of rose and cucumber, makes an incredible martini, and as suggested, toss the lime! I'd even toss the tonic water, the vermouth, but I'd keep the ice! | Quote: | | | | | I've seen it in duty free but not managed to pick it up...

OK...the 1.25 million franc question......Can you find Hendricks in Lausanne, and if so, how many kidneys and other vital organs will I have to sell on eBay to afford it? Where can I find it? I just came through customs with two Bombay Sapphire bottles, and hmmmmm....... .....I happen to be enjoying a G&T as I type. TGIF! I like Sapphire just fine, but I Hendricks! Cheers and a great weekend to all!

you will find hendrick's quite everywhere, throw on google: http://www.pietropaolo.ch/spirituose...ricks-gin.html, 35 bucks the bottle. might find it cheaper in denner although. i drink it often at my local bar (that would be eopiso) served with a slice of a cucumber. brilliant!

| | | Re: Is this the best gin in the world? | Quote: | | | | | | | | | | I agree.
Though I would say: different gins for different drinks
I like Hendricks in a G & T.
I like Tanq 10 as a martini with a twist of lemon.
I like Tanq Rangpur as a martini with a twist of lime.
(Different martinis for different times of day/occasions . . . the latter is a good early evening or aperitif drink)
Another gin that hasn't been mentioned, but is garnering a good reputation is Sipsmith: http://www.sipsmith.com/ |
